Woodward Academy is currently seeking professional, part-time and full-time, Bus Drivers to join our workforce in the Transportation Department. Student Transport, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Woodward Academy, located in College Park, GA, our drivers provide daily transportation to our campuses and off-campus activities.
Position Overview: The successful candidate will safely operate a school bus, transporting students to and from school and special events while ensuring their safety at all times. They will follow assigned routes, maintain a timely schedule, and adhere to traffic and safety regulations. The candidate will conduct routine inspections of the bus, report any maintenance issues, and keep accurate records of trips and student attendance. Additionally, they will maintain a positive and professional attitude, interact respectfully with students, parents, and staff, and assist in managing student behavior during transit.
Specific duties include:
  • Safely operate school buses on scheduled routes and/or on all types of trips in support of school approved activities, both within and outside the school boundaries in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws as well as Woodward Academy and Student Transport policies
  • Service, inspect, and clean school buses and related equipment as required by Federal, State, Woodward Academy, and Student Transport policies
  • Maintain control of student passengers to ensure safety and report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver
  • Complete forms, records and reports as required by the state or school policies
  • Operate and service all school bus equipment and accessories including but not limited to fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, first aid kits, etc
  • Perform required operational safety inspection of the school bus and all related equipment
  • Maintain a clean and orderly school bus. Perform a daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection to include fuel, oil, and coolant and tire inflation
  • Operate all hand and foot controls installed in a school bus as required by School Bus Specifications
  • Perform basic first aid as appropriate, which may include CPR & DEF
  • Communicate appropriately with students, parents and school personnel
  • Perform other school bus driver related duties as directed by Student Transport policies

Required skills:
  • Meet the physical and mental standards necessary to perform the duties, tasks and responsibilities of a school bus driver as described in this job description (Verification by a physician's examination is required, per DOT guidelines)
  • Ability to sit, walk, or stand for prolonged periods of time

Minimum Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum age 21
  • Must possess a valid Georgia CDL (Commercial Drivers License) Class B with P (Passenger) and S (School Bus) endorsements preferred

The Bus Driver position is a non-exempt, hourly position offering both part-time and full-time employment opportunities. Hourly rate is commensurate with CDL and experience.
