Location: Ogden Community Schools, Ogden, Iowa
Position Type: Part-Time, 9-Month Contract (School Year) with opportunity for additional routes in the summer.
Reports To: Transportation Director
Job Summary:
Ogden Community Schools is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Bus Route Driver to join our transportation team. This position is responsible for the safe and timely transport of students to and from school and school-sponsored activities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student safety, punctuality, and positive communication with students, families, and staff.
Essential Functions:
Daily Transportation Operations
  • Operate a school bus safely along assigned routes in compliance with all traffic laws, district policies, and safety regulations.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure vehicle safety and cleanliness.
  • Maintain order and discipline on the bus to ensure a safe environment for all passengers.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding schedules, delays, and expectations.

Student Safety & Support
  • Ensure the safe loading and unloading of students, including assistance for students with special needs when necessary.
  • Monitor student behavior and report incidents or concerns to appropriate school personnel.
  • Administer emergency procedures as needed, including evacuation drills and minor first aid.

Record Keeping & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate records related to daily routes, student counts, and incident reports.
  • Follow all state and federal regulations regarding school transportation, including hours of service and maintenance reporting.

Collaboration & Professionalism
  • Participate in required safety training, in-service sessions, and staff meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with the Transportation Director and school personnel to ensure student needs are met.
  • Represent Ogden Community Schools in a professional, courteous, and dependable manner.

Other Duties as Assigned
  • Drive for school-related field trips or extracurricular events as scheduled.
  • Perform minor cleaning of the bus interior and report mechanical issues to the transportation department.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Iowa Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus endorsements, OR be willing to obtain it with district support.
  • Successful completion of background checks and DOT physical exam.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Punctual, dependable, and committed to student safety.
  • Prior school bus driving experience preferred but not required.

Additional Information:
  • Regular morning and afternoon route hours during the school year.
  • Opportunity for additional hours through activity and field trip routes.
