Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school. This role requires knowledge of traffic and highway safety laws, as well as an understanding of the precautions needed to ensure the safety of all passengers and prevent accidents. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & TASKS:

  • Safely transport students to and from school, following a preplanned route and defined time schedule.
  • Operate and regulate air conditioning and ventilation systems to ensure passenger comfort.
  • Create a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for all members of the school community.
  • Drive carefully and in full compliance with all traffic regulations.
  • Ensure the safety of students during loading, unloading, and transport to and from school.
  • Instruct students in bus safety procedures and practices; signal when it is safe to cross the street and ensure students cross safely.
  • Maintain discipline on the bus and report any incidents of unruly behavior to the Supervisor.
  • Inspect and clean the bus daily, including sweeping and checking fluid levels (water, gas, oil) and mechanical condition before each run.
  • Promptly report any delays, accidents, or mechanical issues to the Supervisor.
  • Maintain operational records and prepare simple reports as required.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including updated route sheets, Paychex time records, and incident or accident reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all Miami Country Day School policies as outlined in the MCDS Employee Handbook.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • High School diploma or completion of GED and experience and skill in specific, relevant field of study.
  • State of Florida CDL License with a passenger endorsement.
  • CPR certified
  • Training on highway safety rules and regulations.
  • Completion of a performance test in school bus operation
  • Ability to pass an annual physical examination.
  • Five (5) years of verifiable driving experience.
  • Current State of Florida drivers license.
  • Good driving record. No DUI conviction in past fifteen (15) years
