Description: South Washington County School District seeks Bus drivers for route driving.

Qualifications: In order to be hired by the South Washington County School District you will need to participate in the following if you currently hold a CDL and School Bus endorsement:
  • Driver Record Check
  • Interview
  • State of Minnesota Criminal Background Check
  • Reference Checks
  • Classroom Training and a Behind the Wheel Evaluation
  • Pass the DOT Pre-employment Drug Screening

If you do not have a School Bus License we will train you. You will need to do the following in addition to the above items:
  • Pass a CDL physical
  • Obtain a CDL permit with school bus and Passenger endorsement
  • Eligible for reimbursement for CDL
  • Attend Classroom and Behind the Wheel Training
  • Pass the Minnesota CDL/ School Bus Road Test

POSITION SUMMARY:
Safely transports students to and from school as well as school related activities and to assure students' safety while they are on the school bus or other district transportation vehicles.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Inspects the school bus as required before operation.
  • Reviews route direction as needed prior to driving route.
  • Follows designated routes, times, bus stops and follows safe loading and unloading procedures when discharging students at their school or designated stop.
  • Transports authorized passengers.
  • Obeys Federal, State and Local rules and regulations.
  • Completes written reports as required.
  • Maintains a clean and fueled school bus.
  • Operates the two-way radio.
  • Reports all mechanical problems to Transportation Shop.
  • Maintains discipline and reports student discipline problems.
  • Reports all crashes immediately.
  • Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
  • Conducts a post trip inspection after each route.
  • Follows the policies and procedures in accordance with the South Washington County Transportation Department Handbook and the provisions listed in the Bus Driver/Assistant Employee Contract.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid School Bus License or will train
  • Positive interpersonal communication and relationship building skills
  • Ability to interact with all ages of children
  • Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
  • Fully participate in training as requested
  • Prompt, regular and reliable attendance
  • First aid and CPR training
  • Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Sucessfully meets the qualifications of the transportation department physical test
  • Ability to perform routine computer functions, including the use of email and Microsoft Word
