POSITION DETAILS:
Bus attendants work part time hours with full time benefits! The position works 40 Weeks per year, 5 days per week at 4 hours per day, following the school calendar. Bus attendants can also pick up routes throughout the day for additional pay!

A year of service annual increase will be provided to employees who have completed 120 working days in a paid status per school year based on the board approved salary schedule. New employees begin on year 1.

If elected, insurance coverage begins the first of the month following the successful completion of a 30-day probationary period.

The health clinics provide primary care services, generic prescription medications, physicals, health screenings, and labs; all at NO COST to the employee or covered family member.

EVSC employees have access to the EVSC Wee Care Learning Centers. The Wee Care program provides a quality early learning experience for employees' children as young as six weeks through age five at a special employee rate.
This position will automatically be enrolled in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). Employees may also participate in a 403(b) Plan. Enrolling in the 403(b) plan allows employees to save for their retirement by making a pre-tax salary deferral contributions to the Plan.
Eligible employees may enroll in the EVSC group life insurance and long term disability plans. EVSC also offers a variety of voluntary insurance products through American Fidelity.
EVSC offers a free Employee Assistance Program (EAP). It is a confidential, voluntary service that provides professional counseling and referral services designed to help employees and their family members with personal, job or family-related matters.
SUMMARY:
The Bus Attendant assists in providing safe, orderly, and efficient transportation for students, including students with disabilities and special needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assist the bus driver in safely transporting students, including students with disabilities and special needs.
  • Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including the safe operation of wheelchair lifts and securement systems.
  • Ensure wheelchairs, safety harnesses, and other specialized equipment are properly secured during transport.
  • Maintain appropriate student behavior and support a safe, orderly environment on the bus.
  • Remain alert to hazardous conditions in loading and unloading areas and assist in ensuring student safety at all times.
  • Communicate professionally and appropriately with students, parents/guardians, school personnel, and transportation staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information, including addresses, medical information, and educational records, in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
  • Become familiar with the individual needs, behaviors, and emergency procedures for students with special needs.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations, including effective use of the two-way radio and emergency communication procedures.
  • Assist the driver with emergency evacuation procedures and student safety during emergencies.
  • Assist with the handling and administration procedures of student medication during transportation, in accordance with district policy and training requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of basic first aid procedures.
  • Participate in required training and professional development related to student transportation and safety.
  • Faithfully perform all duties and responsibilities outlined in the employment contract and follow all supervisory directives and district policies.
  • Maintain regular attendance.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before students, staff, parents and community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to calculate time, mileage, and distances accurately.
  • Ability to read gauges, schedules, and route information.
  • Ability to complete basic records and reports involving numerical data.

REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. (Such as students with seizures, blind, etc.)
