Job description

TITLE: Bus Driver
REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • A valid SC CDL Driver's license with safe driving record.
  • CPR and First Aid Certified
  • Pass physical Performance Test being able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • SC School Bus Driver Certification

JOB GOAL:
The purpose of this classification is to transport students safely and efficiently to and from District schools. Responsible for maintaining a clean and properly working vehicle, and correcting student behavior as needed.
MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Transport students safely and efficiently to and from District schools; provide transportation for morning and
afternoon routes, as well as for special activities and athletics events.
2) Monitor students' safety; correct students' behavior as needed; ensure students stay seated on the bus and that
hands remain inside the windows at all times; report disciplinary problems.
3) Assist students on and off bus as needed.
4) Establish bus routes on a daily basis.
5) Inspect bus regularly; notify maintenance of any needed bus repairs or issues; report vandalism.
6) Report accidents and complete accident reports and forms if needed.
7) Make sure students get off at their correct stops.
8) Maintain a clean bus; sweep floor, wash windows.
9) Assist students if they become ill during transport.
10) Be prepared to handle any possible emergencies.
Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned.
- Participate in staff development programs.
- Check mail daily; take mail to schools daily.
- Process monthly reports; keep records of mileage and times.
- Obey all traffic laws and regulations.
- Maintain radio contact with dispatch during routes.
PAY SCHEDULE/GROUP: Bus Driver
SUPERVISOR: Director of Transportation
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 days. Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy by the Director of Transportation.
