Job description

Burrtec is a well-established refuse and recycling collection company serving over fifteen municipalities throughout Southern California and employing over 1400 full-time employees. Burrtec continues to grow through company acquisitions and successful bid proposals. Burrtec is a family-owned company that firmly believes the key element to our success is knowing how important each employee is to the organization. We have the following position at our West Valley Material Recovery Facility (MRF):

Position Summary:

Coordinate traffic control activities for the Material Recovery Facility/Transfer Station departments, spot customer vehicles and check loads. Engage with customers.

SALARY RANGE: $22.25/hour - $24.00/hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provide traffic control efforts at the Transfer Station, Green Waste, Construction & Demolition, and Material Recovery Facility.
  • Direct incoming vehicles to wait at the metering area until unloading space is available.
  • Direct vehicles to un-tarp and back into the unloading space.
  • Ensure customers are following Tip Floor Rules
  • Provide traffic direction for special circumstances such as vehicle accidents/breakdowns and/or special projects requiring additional traffic direction.
  • Constant watch of vehicle and equipment movement, with the intent of protecting self and others from harm and constant communication with other traffic spotters, Equipment Operators, Scale House, and Supervision.
  • Engage with customers answering questions regarding facility services, rules, fees and acceptable waste types, providing a high level of customer service.
  • Monitor incoming loads for hazardous wastes or other unsafe conditions
  • Inspect recycle loads for recovery and residue percentages
  • Stop operations if any unsafe condition arises
  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to safety rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Good judgment skills and ability to recognize equipment problems.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish, required

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • One year of previous customer service experience required

PHYSICAL:

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Will be exposed to moderate noise and dust levels.
  • Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions (heat, rain, wind, snow, fog).
