Job Description
The Bronx District Attorney's Office is seeking a well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds reflect an ability to serve the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Crime Victims Assistance Bureau (CVAB) housed within the Special Victims Division of the Office is seeking a Bureau Chief. The Chief of CVAB leads, manages and administrates the Office's in-house victim services program, which provides direct, concrete, and therapeutic services to crime victims throughout Bronx County, and makes referrals when appropriate. The Bureau, led by the Chief, Deputy Chiefs, and Director of Clinical Services is regularly involved in planning year-round community events and outreach related to crime victims' awareness and prevention. This is a high-level position in the Office which requires ongoing interaction with the District Attorney, the Executive Staff, the Community Engagement Bureau, managers throughout the Office, as well as interagency contact and collaboration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.Excellent written, oral and communication skills.
2.Prompt responsiveness to phone and email communications at all hours as appropriate.
3.Knowledge of the criminal justice system and hands on experience serving crime victims.
4.Knowledge and practice of clinical and case management.
5.Strong victim engagement skills, including assessment, intervention, referral, and advocacy.
6.Engage in direct victim contact and willing to step in and perform daily tasks for and/or alongside CVAB staff members as needed.
7.Experience working with and advocating for an underserved/vulnerable populations.
8.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work a flexible schedule.
9.Ability to effectively engage in inter/intra agency collaborations and navigate a variety of systems.
10.Ability to work independently, assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
11.Lead and maintain a healthy work environment for staff that promotes and encourages professionalism, respect, inclusivity, and professional development.
12.Ensure all internal and external communications reflect trauma-informed, victim-centered, and culturally responsive best practices.
13.Possess and continue to develop "trust and inspire" leadership skills to unite a diverse staff with varying levels of experience.
14. Maintain a strong and supportive relationship with CVAB's Leadership Team.
SPECIFIC DUTIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Administrative:
-Provides supervision, training and oversight for a multi-site Bureau with 45+ staff, consisting of managers, advocates, therapists, and specialized components and programs.
-Meets regularly with CVAB leadership team and staff to foster a supportive environment that encourages team growth, accountability, and proactive improvement of processes and services.
-Advocates in-house and externally on the issues and complexities faced by crime victims.
-Interviews candidates for CVAB vacancies.
-Prepares and provides quarterly and yearly performance evaluations.
-Maintains communication and liaisons with ADAs, Bureau Chiefs, Executives, and Professional Staff leaders throughout the Office.
-Leads efforts to improve tracking, reporting, and coordination of victim services.
Develops, Manages & Maintains grant funding for all CVAB programs:
-Identifies gaps in services and is innovative in attempting to fill these gaps.
-Researches and explores possible funding opportunities, including OVS and OVC Grants, and NYC Council/OMB funding; Assists in the application process.
-Provides oversight and prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to existing funders.
-Prepares statistical data and narratives for the Office's Annual Report, City Council presentations, and Budget requests.
Collaborates with Other Agencies:
-Maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with federal, state and local entities, such as the NYS Office of Victim Services (OVS), Department of Justice's Office of Victims of Crime (OVC), Safe Horizon, Bronx Family Justice Center and other victim service providers.
-Has membership in and actively participates in professional coalitions and networks such as the Downstate Coalition for Victim Service Providers, the NYC Alliance Against Sexual Assault, the NY State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV), the US Marshalls' Witness Protection Alliance Group, and other Crime Victim related Agencies to support best practices and resource sharing.
-Establishes and maintains protocols (MOUs, referral pathways, information-sharing agreements) to strengthen partnerships and improve coordinated responses of services to crime victims.
-Ensures all collaboration upholds confidentiality, legal compliance, and trauma-informed, victim-centered standards.
-Represents the Bronx District Attorney at a variety of meetings and events in the community, sometimes on weeknights/weekends.
Educates and Trains inside and outside the Office:
-Ensures all CVAB staff are trained in trauma-informed, victim-centered, and culturally responsive best practices.
-Prepares and presents educational/informational training/workshops for ADAs, service providers, community groups, NYC and NY State agencies.
-Monitors, trains, and ensures CVAB compliance with applicable laws impacting victim services (e.g., Discovery laws, Orders of Protection, housing policies) within the Office.
-As requested by the Bronx District Attorney, Communications Director, and Community Engagement Director, presents on topics related to crime victim-related issues.
-Presents at local, state and national Conferences.
Develops & Spearheads Special Projects and Initiatives:
-In collaboration with BXDA's Community Engagement Bureau, facilitates and oversees the planning and execution of specialized events and programs for National Crime Victims' Rights Week, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, Coping with the Holiday's After Victimization, BXDA's annual Tree of Angels, Human Trafficking Awareness Month, Homicide Remembrance Day, and other Awareness Month Events throughout the year.
-Oversees and maintains existing CVAB programs while developing and implementing new ones.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
1.An Advanced Degree related to Criminal Justice and/or Licensed Social Work credentials from an accredited college is required.
2.A minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience is required.
3.A minimum of 5 years providing direct services to crime victims is required.
4.Must have a knowledge of the diversity and complexity of Bronx County.
5.Must possess a valid NY State Driver's License
6.Must be able to travel.
7.Must be able to work flexible hours.
Note: Due to the nature of the work performed and the needs of the agency, the Chief of CVAB will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.
