Richard Construction Inc. (RCI) is currently seeking experienced Industrial Journeyman Boilermakers. *No Per-diem
Position Summary
An Industrial Journeyman Boilermaker will unbolt and bolt flanges of pipe to equipment, pipe to pipe, etc., across a construction site.
RCI has various levels of Boilermaker positions based on experience and skills ranked as follows:
  • Boilermaker Leadman: NCCER Certified
  • Boilermaker I: NCCER Certified
  • Boilermaker II:
  • Boilermaker III:

Qualification Highlights:
  • Must have 3 to 5 years working as a Boilermaker
  • Must possess all knowledge skills and abilities for position - see below
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements
  • Must be able to work at heights in excess of 300 feet in elevation
  • Must have all required tools
  • Must be able to regularly and reliably show up at the assigned job site
  • Must meet all safety and security requirements at the assigned job site

Position Responsibilities:
  • Read engineered drawings and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations in space (coordinates), quantities, and sizes of materials required
  • Identify all tools required for tasks
  • Identify safety risks and precautions required to eliminate those risks
  • Fabricate equipment according to engineered drawings or instructions from supervision
  • Hoist equipment and tools into location via bull rigging or cranes
  • Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment

Required Qualifications:
  • Leadership Abilities
    • Ability to take lead in flange bolting, erection of steel, fabrication, grid layout, rigging, etc.
    • Ability to perform all job duties of craft trade
  • Drawings
    • Ability to read and understand Issued For Construction (IFC) Drawings
    • Ability to validate and request Bills of Material (BOM) for flange assemblies
    • Ability to make hang lists, read details off drawings, read all notes on drawings before erection, location, and understand Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) or holds on drawings
    • Understand when to stop production work and when a Request For Information (RFI) needs to be initiated and answered in order to re-start productive work
    • Read and understand craft specs and cut sheets, craft spec procedures and recommendations
    • Ability to locate piece marks for correct views and know how to pick out different elevations
    • Ability to know the correct installation based on the orientation
    • Knowledge of symbols based on Legends
  • Rigging
    • Knowledge of all types of safe rigging practices (chokers, slings, etc.)
    • Ability to dictate correct knots based on material
  • Connection
    • Know all aspects of connecting
    • Know correct procedures for bolting and bolting patterns
    • Knowledge of Torque or Tensioning methods used for connecting joints
  • Torque vs. Tension
    • Knowledge of Torque values
    • Knowledge of Tension
  • Plan Work and Schedule
    • Ability to take drawings, required material, line out helpers, and execute work safely
  • Tools and Knowledge
    • Knowledge of specialty tools (torque wrench, torque guns, etc.)
    • Basic knowledge of cutting torch, setup, dangers, usage, cleaning, types of tips and when to use different tips
  • Equipment Use
    • Knowledge of JLG's, man baskets, cranes, forklifts, etc.
    • Basic maintenance (inspections)
    • Safe operation practices
    • Flagging and signaling of cranes, forklifts, man lifts, etc.
  • Knots
    • Tying knots for tag lines, etc.
    • Basic knots for lashing
  • Math Skills
    • Footage, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, etc., to perform craft duties
  • Must be willing to perform any additional duties as instructed by supervision
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, manufacturers manuals, and instructions
  • Good aptitude and manual dexterity
