Red Dot Buildings is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Shop Laborer to support structural steel production at our Athens, Texas facility. This position may operate plate-pulling and plate-processing equipment or a pull-through welder used to assemble and weld steel web and flange components.
Depending on your experience, training and production needs, you may measure and stage steel, pull and process plate, operate pull-through welding equipment or support other fabrication machinery. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with machine operation, welding or steel fabrication experience who enjoys hands-on work and learning specialized equipment.

What You Will Do
  • Read and follow shop drawings, production instructions and material specifications
  • Verify that the correct web, flange or plate material is selected for each assignment
  • Measure, position and stage structural steel components
  • Operate plate-pulling, plate-processing, pull-through welding or other fabrication equipment based on training and assignment
  • Set up and monitor assigned machinery throughout the production process
  • Use tape measures and other tools to verify material dimensions and component accuracy
  • Operate overhead cranes and lifting devices to safely load, position and move steel
  • Maintain proper material identification and traceability
  • Inspect completed components for correct measurements, alignment, weld placement and visible defects
  • Make basic equipment or material adjustments within established procedures
  • Report equipment malfunctions, material discrepancies and quality concerns to the lead or supervisor
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and basic operator-level care
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area
  • Support other fabrication equipment or production areas based on training and business needs

Requirements
  • Previous experience in manufacturing, machine operation, welding or structural steel fabrication preferred
  • At least one year of MIG welding experience preferred for pull-through welding assignments
  • Ability to read or learn to read shop drawings and production prints
  • Ability to accurately use a tape measure
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn specialized fabrication equipment
  • Strong attention to measurements, material identification and quality
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work safely around heavy steel and moving machinery
  • Experience operating overhead cranes or lifting devices is a plus
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision and collaborate with the production team
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Ability to successfully complete any required machine or welding assessment
