Our Fire Protection Practice is seeking a Buidling Systems Designer to join our team! This person will be responsible for obtaining field data using 3D scanning methods and translating that data into Revit models.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

KCI looking for a motivated and detail-oriented engineering field designer to wield cutting edge 3D Laser Scanning tools to support our fire protection engineering. If you have experience-or a strong interest-in high-resolution 3D scanning and LiDAR technology, 3D/BIM modeling in Revit, we want to hear from you! You'll work with industry-leading equipment like the Leica BLK360G2 and RTC360 systems to support exciting, hands-on projects across the country.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate 3D laser scanning equipment (Leica BLK360, RTC360, or similar) to capture detailed as-built data from the field
  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain scanning gear in field environments
  • Collaborate with project managers and technical teams to ensure accurate data collection
  • Travel extensively (majority of the time) to job sites nationwide
  • Manage field logistics and maintain project documentation
  • Back at the office, 3D modeling from laser scans obtained from field to produce Revit models to support engineering design efforts. Modeling of fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and other building elements. Training will be provided on these skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates in CAD, Engineering, or Surveying
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Revit/AutoCAD and 3D modeling
  • Experience with 3D laser scanning or surveying workflows
  • Familiarity with point cloud data and associated software
  • Comfortable with using a PC on a daily basis
  • Surveying background or certification a plus
  • Comfortable working independently in the field and in various site conditions

 Please note that this role will require the occasional need to lift and/or move items weighing up to 70 lbs., including materials, tools, or equipment related to inspections. This could also include carrying equipment up ladders and stairs.

Qualifications

Education and/or Skills Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:

  • Understanding of drafting fundamentals is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite; Photoshop and Google Earth are a plus.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:

Valid Driver's License
