Position Overview
The Lead Delivery Driver / Key Holder plays a critical role in supporting daily delivery operations while serving as a working driver and designated key holder. This position supports Delivery Services Representatives and management by providing on-the-job training, assisting with route and operational activities, covering delivery routes as needed, and helping ensure the team meets safety, service, and performance expectations.
As a Key Holder and Leader on Duty, this position is responsible for coordinating daily activities and maintaining the safety and security of the building during the absence of management. Responsibilities may include opening and closing the facility, activating or deactivating building security systems, conducting team start-up meetings, and providing day-to-day operational direction. Weekend activity will include the physical loading of vehicles using a pallet jack.
The Lead Delivery Driver / Key Holder is also responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate delivery of products while providing exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, customer-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of daily operations while leading by example.
Primary Responsibilities
  • This role will primarily be a weekend operation (Saturdays and Sundays every week)
  • Serve as a working delivery driver while providing daily operational leadership and support to the delivery team.
  • Perform early-morning warehouse activities, which may include sorting, verifying, and the loading of pallets into vehicles for the daily routes.
  • Serve as Key Holder and Leader on Duty during the absence of management, providing direction and support to team members.
  • Open and/or close the facility as assigned, including activation and deactivation of building alarm and security systems.
  • Conduct daily team start-up meetings and communicate priorities, safety expectations, route assignments, and operational updates.
  • Provide backup coverage for vacant delivery routes and assist with deliveries and pickups as needed.
  • Safely operates all fleet delivery vehicles in accordance with ODP Safety and Operational SOPs and DOT rules and regulations.
  • Assist management with route planning, balancing, dispatch, loading, and resource allocation to support timely and efficient deliveries.
  • Monitor daily delivery activities and proactively identify and escalate issues that could impact service, safety, or operational performance.
  • Ensure required delivery documentation, proof of delivery, paperwork, and system updates are completed accurately and timely.
  • Support vehicle safety and compliance by assisting with drivers pre/post trip vehicle inspections and retraining drivers as needed.
  • Coordinate or assist with preventive maintenance activities to ensure vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational.
  • Train, coach, and support new and existing Delivery Services Representatives on delivery procedures, equipment, systems, safety practices, and customer service expectations.
  • Provide feedback to management regarding employee performance, training needs, operational challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Reinforce company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety standards, and DOT requirements.
  • Support building security, loss prevention, and facility safety requirements while serving as Key Holder.
  • Identify customer needs and potential incremental sales opportunities and communicate relevant information to account representatives.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers while representing the company in a professional manner.
  • Communicate customer feedback, service concerns, and opportunities to appropriate management or account representatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve delivery efficiency, employee productivity, safety, and the overall customer experience.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • 2 years of delivery experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership, lead, supervisory, or team-lead experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a delivery, transportation, warehouse, or logistics environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with transportation systems, delivery processes, and operational procedures preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Class B CDL is required when operating vehicles that require a CDL based on applicable GVWR and state requirements.
  • Must meet all applicable DOT qualification requirements.
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy.
Technology & Equipment
  • Basic computer skills required; experience with transportation, routing, GIS, or delivery management systems preferred.
  • Ability to use handheld scanners, tablets, or other mobile technology to complete delivery and operational tasks.
  • Ability to safely operate manual and powered material-handling equipment.
  • Experience using manual pallet jacks is preferred.

  • Serve as the designated Key Holder and Leader on Duty when management is not present.
  • Maintain responsibility for building safety and security during assigned Key Holder shifts.
  • Complete facility opening and closing procedures as assigned.
  • Activate and deactivate building alarm and security systems as required.
  • Ensure employees follow established safety, security, and loss prevention procedures.
  • Escalate safety, security, facility, or operational concerns to management promptly.
