About The Opportunity

Chelsea Piers Fitness is seeking to hire a Facility Operations Director to join our Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for the strategic oversight and execution of facility operations across multiple sites. This role leads and develops Facility Operations Managers, oversees technical teams and vendor performance, and ensures operational excellence, financial discipline, and service standards are consistently achieved.

The Facility Operations Director plays a critical leadership role in ensuring our facilities operate efficiently, safely, and at the highest standard. This individual will translate company strategy into actionable site-level execution, while building strong teams and scalable systems that support long‑term growth. This is a high‑impact leadership opportunity for an experienced operator who thrives in complex, fast‑paced environments and is motivated by ownership and accountability.

Primary ResponsibilitiesMulti-Club Operational Oversight
  • Oversee all daily operations across multiple locations
  • Ensure consistency in standards, procedures, and execution across sites
  • Monitor operational KPIs and performance metrics
  • Identify risks and proactively implement solutions
  • Maintain high standards for safety, cleanliness, building systems, and member experience
  • Lead cross-functional operational initiatives
  • Support capital projects, expansions, and operational improvements
  • Strengthen systems, reporting structures, and workflows
Leadership & Development of Facility Operations Managers
  • Directly manage and develop Facility Operations Managers
  • Set clear performance expectations and hold leaders accountable to results
  • Conduct performance reviews and ongoing coaching
  • Build succession plans and identify high‑potential talent
Technical & Facilities Oversight
  • Oversee maintenance technicians and technical operations across all properties
  • Ensure preventative maintenance programs are structured, tracked, and executed
  • Monitor building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, etc.)
  • Review and approve major repair and capital improvement recommendations
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
Financial & Budget Accountability
  • Own operating expense budgets across assigned sites
  • Review and approve purchasing decisions and expense allocations
  • Identify cost efficiencies without compromising standards
  • Partner with Finance on forecasting and capital planning
  • Ensure strong financial discipline at every level of the department
Vendor & Contract Management
  • Oversee vendor relationships across properties
  • Negotiate contracts and ensure performance standards are met
  • Evaluate service quality and cost effectiveness
  • Hold external partners accountable to SLAs and safety standards
Strategic Planning & Execution
  • Translate company initiatives into operational plans
  • Lead cross-functional operational initiatives
  • Support new projects, expansions, and capital improvements
  • Improve systems, reporting structures, and operational workflows
  • Drive continuous improvement across all sites
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure all facilities meet safety and regulatory standards
  • Lead incident response and investigation protocols with General Managers
  • Maintain documentation and audit readiness
  • Promote a strong culture of safety across all teams
Cross Departmental Partnership
  • Partner with club leadership and department heads to support business needs
  • Align operations strategy with membership experience goals
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and escalation point for operational matters
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with senior leadership
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, engineering or related field
  • 7 to 10 years of progressive facility or operations leadership experience
  • Multisite management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing managers and technical teams
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and manage operational complexity
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing operating and project budgets
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical systems and ability to read drawings
  • Proven financial management and budgeting expertise
  • Strong leadership presence and executive communication skills
  • Ability to operate with ownership in high volume complex environments
  • Strong communication leadership presence and crisis management skills
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically
  • On call 24 hours 7 days for coordination and resolution of emergency situations
  • Ability to lift 50 to 65 pounds
Preferences
  • Professional certifications such as CFM, CPO, OSHA 30 or equivalent
  • Experience in luxury hospitality retail or large scale athletic facilities
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Bilingual English and Spanish a plus
  • Knowledge of pool operation and maintenance preferred
