Building Better. MODUS Structures Inc. is an experienced off-site design, manufacturing, and construction company, based in Crossfield, Alberta. Established in 2004, MODUS has successfully provided innovative and cost-effective building solutions to the educational, commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional sectors. Operating two manufacturing facilities totaling 200,000 sq. ft. of insulated and heated workspace, the MODUS team works to design, manufacture, and deliver building projects faster than traditional site-built methods.


Position overview

This role reports to the Director of Procurement and Supply Chain and works as part of a team of buyers.


Responsibilities:

  • Source the best quality building materials
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors; establish new and ongoing relationships with suppliers
  • Plan and implement a logistical strategy to meet targets
  • Assisting with logistics, inventory maintenance, shipping, material handling and returns of products
  • Contribute to purchasing strategy, policy and procedures, and make draft recommendations to the Manager.
  • Purchase with the understanding of market trends with respect to building commodities and consumables ensuring that our costing is competitive for the customers that we serve
  • Identifying cost reduction opportunities and conducting market validations of current arrangements by obtaining competitive quotes with negotiation
  • Maintain detailed records
  • Ensure sound purchasing policies, procedures and strategies are followed and consistent with those employed within the company
  • Improving the supply chain performance and seek out any innovations that could be made to improve the process, costs and quality deliverables
  • Develop and maintain purchasing schedules, ensuring material is ordered and received in coordination with the overall project schedules
  • Strong relationship builder internally and externally
  • Ability to foster win-win relationships
  • Manage and minimize risks that may affect or disrupt the supply chain
  • Foster continuous improvement/KAIZEN initiatives internally and with key vendors to reduce cost
  • Optimize working capital levels by ensuring the right inventory at the right time at the right price


Qualifications

  • 5 + years experience in construction materials procurement - with expertise specifically in building materials
  • Qualification in supply chain management or equal experience
  • Lumber industry experience is an asset
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Understanding of General Commercial Construction and General Contracting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office
  • Understanding of Modular Construction would be an asset
