The Opportunity
 
Our client, an established and respected leader in the lumber and building materials industry, is looking for an experienced Store Manager to lead their operation in Courtenay, BC.
 
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows the LBM business, understands contractor and retail customers, and enjoys being involved in the day-to-day operation.
 
You will have responsibility for the overall performance of the location, including sales, customer service, people leadership, inventory and operations. You'll work closely with your team, build relationships with local contractors and customers, and look for opportunities to continue growing the business.
For an experienced LBM leader looking to make a move to Vancouver Island, relocation assistance is available.
 
What You'll Do
 
Lead the Business
  • Take ownership of the overall performance and day-to-day operation of the store
  • Drive sales and identify opportunities to grow the contractor and retail customer base
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, builders and customers in the local market
  • Stay connected to the market and identify new product and sales opportunities
  • Ensure customers consistently receive knowledgeable, responsive service
Lead the Team
  • Lead, coach and develop the store team
  • Recruit and onboard new employees as required
  • Set clear expectations and hold the team accountable for performance
  • Conduct regular coaching, performance reviews and staff meetings
  • Create a positive, collaborative and customer-focused culture
Manage Operations
  • Oversee inventory levels, purchasing requirements and operational expenses

  • 5+ years of experience in lumber and building materials
  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience within an LBM retail, dealer or distribution environment
  • Strong knowledge of lumber and building material products
  • Experience working with contractors, builders and retail customers
  • A proven ability to lead, coach and develop employees
  • Strong sales and customer relationship skills
  • An understanding of inventory, margins and operational performance
  • A hands-on leadership style and willingness to be involved in the day-to-day business
  • Strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills
