What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the building management system position?
To thrive as a Building Management System (BMS) professional, you need expertise in building automation, HVAC controls, electrical systems, and a background in engineering or technology. Familiarity with common BMS platforms (such as Siemens, Honeywell, or Schneider Electric), networking protocols, and industry certifications like Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or LEED accreditation are highly advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills and qualifications ensure efficient system operations, enable quick troubleshooting, and facilitate smooth coordination with facility teams and vendors.
What are the typical daily responsibilities of a building management system professional?
As a BMS professional, your daily tasks often include monitoring system performance, conducting routine system checks, responding to alarms or faults, and troubleshooting any technical issues that arise. You may also be responsible for coordinating with contractors, facility managers, and maintenance teams to plan and implement repairs, upgrades, or system optimizations. Documentation, reporting, and compliance with safety and energy regulations are also important aspects of the job. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure building comfort, energy efficiency, and operational reliability.
What is a building management system?
A Building Management System (BMS) job involves overseeing and maintaining the automated systems that control a building’s essential functions, such as HVAC, lighting, security, and energy management. Professionals in this role ensure that these systems operate efficiently, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance for cost savings and sustainability. They may also work on integrating new technologies and responding to maintenance needs. This role is critical in large commercial buildings, hospitals, and industrial facilities.

Job description
To be part of our organization, every employee should understand and share in the YNHHS Vision, support our Mission, and live our Values. These values - integrity, patient-centered, respect, accountability, and compassion - must guide what we do, as individuals and professionals, every day.
