Job description

Salary Range: $28.14 - $36.86 per hour (based on Union scale)

Regular Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 7:00am - 2:30pm

Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Building Engineer to join our Facilities team in operating, maintaining, and repairing building systems across our campus. Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, this role is responsible for performing complex corrective and preventive maintenance, as well as skilled renovation and construction services. Work is performed throughout the campus in various conditions, and this position operates independently with minimal direct supervision.


What You’ll Do:

  • Independently perform routine preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems as well as kitchen, healthcare and laundry equipment and appliances.
  • Respond immediately to life safety system alarms and failures (including smoke alarms, emergency pull cords, and pendant calls).
  • Respond to resident and staff service requests via work order system and/or radio communication.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and complete required reports.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain card key access systems, telephone systems, and cable services as needed.
  • Perform complex corrective and preventive maintenance across building systems and infrastructure.
  • Order materials and supplies required for maintenance and projects.
  • Read and interpret plans/blueprints to determine scope of work and materials needed.
  • Perform carpentry and construction tasks, including drywall installation, partition walls, and plaster repair.
  • Support safety compliance and participate in required training and meetings.

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certificates

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in building maintenance, construction, or renovations.
  • Valid State of Washington driver’s license required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, including radio communication.
  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., work order systems, email, Word).
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Strong teamwork and customer service skills when working with residents, staff, and vendors.
