Overview / Responsibilities

 

This person will be a member of a team providing engineering consulting services to private industry and government clients. This position will support a wide variety of projects. Some of the duties of this position may include:

  • Performs field exploration, inspections, and analysis.
  • Acts as a data gatherer; prepares charts.
  • Interprets data and test results.
  • Performs engineering calculations using various software applications.
  • Conducts energy audits; uses equipment and instrumentation.
  • Prepares field reports, internal correspondence, sections of formal reports.
  • Follows company and client safety standards
  • Contacts vendors for assistance in specifying equipment and materials
  • Researches requirements in building codes, industry standards, and client design guides.
  • Works closely with more experienced engineers
  • Selects equipment for mechanical, plumbing, process piping, and energy related systems
  • Drafts mechanical, plumbing, and process piping systems using 2D and 3D CADD software
Skills / Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical engineering or graduating within 12 months
  • 0-2 years related experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering and scientific principles
  • Excellent computer application and spreadsheet skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interface with clients and coworkers effectively and professionally
  • Desire to learn, ask questions, and work closely with engineering team
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative

Preferred

  • EIT
  • Prior experience conducting heating and cooling calculations
  • Prior experience designing and specifying plumbing, HVAC, process, and fuel systems
  • Prior experience performing energy audits and related calculations
  • Experience auditing and designing temperature controls systems
  • AutoCAD and Revit experience developing drawings for plumbing and HVAC systems
  • Familiarity with HVAC load calculation and energy modeling software such as Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, or eQuest
  • Field coordination experience
  • Renewable Energy design experience

Physical Requirements

  • Able to do physically demanding field work such as climbing ladders, and carrying back packs with notes and data collecting equipment, etc.
  • Must be able to travel without limitations and perform unimpeded standing and walking in industrial and field environments for up to 12 hours per workday.
  • Must be physically capable of performing work in health and safety personal protective equipment.
