Job description

Summary:

D’Youville University is seeking a skilled and motivated Facilities Engineer to support the planning, design, maintenance, and overall operations of the campus buildings, systems, and infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, continuity of services offered to our students, faculty, staff, and administration.

Responsibilities:

Systems Oversight & Maintenance:

  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of HVAC, building management systems, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate and support preventative and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Conduct inspections and diagnostics of building systems and infrastructure.

Project Coordination & Support:

  • Provide engineering input on renovation and capital improvement projects.
  • Review design documents and specifications from architects and consulting engineers.
  • Assist in developing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for facilities projects.
  • Provide oversight to 3rd party facilities services and various contractors hired to complete scopes of work on campus.
  • Ensure University design and quality standards are met in all special projects, preventative and corrective maintenance initiatives.
  • Provide project management where required.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure all systems and practices comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including NYS Building Code, OSHA, and EPA standards.
  • Assist with annual project coordination and reporting to the City of Buffalo’s Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
  • Assist with scheduling, oversight of all required inspections and compliance reporting to the City of Buffalo and other regulatory bodies.

Documentation, Data Management & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of building systems, preventative maintenance logs, and corrective repairs.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track work orders and assets.
  • Work proactively to identify, design, and propose capital projects which improve system reliability, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Keep current a facility condition assessment database
  • Oversee & monitor the campus utilities

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with maintenance staff, outside contractors, architects, engineers, and university departments.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to facilities staff when necessary.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, facilities engineering, or a related construction, facilities, project management degrees strongly preferred.
  • Demonstration of work experience with progressively larger job responsibilities in the related field can be considered in substitute for degree

Experience:

  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or campus environments strongly preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of reading drawings and understanding building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) and engineering standards required.
  • Familiarity with New York State and federal building codes and environmental regulations.
  • Must be competent in Microsoft365 platform, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, etc.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, CMMS, and/or building automation systems (BAS) strongly preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Internal drive and motivation to seek continuous improvement necessary.
