Our rapidly growing company seeks an eager and hard-working professional to join our team as a Building Automation System (BAS) Application Engineer II to support the engineering, programming and implementation of BAS for multiple clients in the Washington, DC Metro Area.
The Building Automation System (BAS) Application Engineer II is responsible for engineering auditing, design, engineering and programming of BAS strategies across various mechanical and electrical systems to achieve project success. This position will work in various functional areas including BAS design, auditing, engineering, programming, checkout and retro-commissioning for renovation, retrofit, new construction and design/build BAS projects. This position is a customer facing role under the direct supervision of an experienced Senior BAS Engineering manager/Project Manager.
Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct customer project site visits to audit/investigate existing direct digital controls (DDC) controls of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other building systems and document existing BAS controls conditions.
  • Collaborate with clients, engineers, and project managers to understand project requirements and develop comprehensive BAS controls engineering and programming solutions.
  • Develop BAS engineering drawing packages and compile close out documents including as-built drawings using Microsoft Visio under the supervision of senior BAS engineers.
  • Develop custom control algorithms and logic sequences tailored to specific building environments and occupant needs to meet project scope of work and control sequences.
  • Design and program HVAC control systems using industry-leading software platforms such as Tridium Niagara 4 (required) and Automated Logic Controls (preferred but not required) etc.
  • Accurately develop, modify and review BAS graphics and maintain graphic library.
  • Provide technical support of DDC based hardware and software including creation and/or verification of control and integration point lists.
  • Integrate HVAC systems with other building subsystems, including lighting, security, and energy management, to create cohesive and efficient building automation solutions.
  • Conduct thorough testing and commissioning of BAS installations to verify proper functionality and performance.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to resolve issues and optimize BAS performance post-installation.
  • Support quality assurance and commissioning efforts for a variety of BAS control system components and sequences.
  • Work with project stakeholders (customers, supervisors, field personnel, other contractors) to gather information relating to any issues and/or changes in functionality and features of various HVAC control systems.
  • Attending routine progress meetings with the client, vendors, internal teams or subcontractor to discuss hardware and software engineering related project updates, concerns, and resolution of issues.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to continually enhance our offerings and maintain our competitive edge.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by leadership.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (preferred but not required) or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related technical discipline specific to HVAC, mechanical, electrical and or Building Automation Systems (BAS) is acceptable.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in HVAC field or BAS programming and engineering, with a focus on commercial and industrial applications is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of IP-based networks and various BAS communication protocols and systems preferred. Such protocols and systems include Niagara Tridium, BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and components, including (but not limited to) chillers, boilers, air handlers, VAV boxes, and control valves is preferred.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of control theory, Automatic Temperature Controls (ATC), BAS and other building subsystems, PLC Logic.
  • Experience with commissioning tools and protocols, including functional testing, point-to-point verification, and system optimization preferred but not required.
  • Proficient in working with others to plan, conduct, and report work efforts.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to be attentive and responsive to client concerns.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task within time and technical constraints.
  • Ability to establish effective collaborative working relationships and effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients
  • Must possess a high level of ownership, enthusiasm, and a collaborative, professional temperament.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, reference check and a drug screening
