Building Automation Engineer

Location: Redmond, WA

Schedule: Hybrid (onsite Tuesday–Thursday, flexible Monday/Friday)

Pay Rate: $33–$34/hour

Employment Type: Contract- 5months with possible extensions


Position Summary

We are seeking a Building Automation Engineer to support smart building operations and energy management initiatives across a large commercial campus environment. This role will focus on monitoring building automation systems, supporting HVAC equipment integration, maintaining system connectivity, and resolving building data and controls-related issues across multiple facilities.

The ideal candidate will have experience with BAS/BMS platforms, HVAC controls, building system integrations, and network communication protocols, with the ability to analyze alarms, equipment data, and system performance to improve reliability and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

• Monitor building automation systems and equipment performance across multiple facilities

• Support integration of HVAC and building equipment into centralized building automation and smart building platforms

• Investigate and troubleshoot system communication, connectivity, and data flow issues

• Review equipment alarms, system alerts, and operational trends to identify issues and support resolution

• Ensure building systems are connected, communicating properly, and transmitting accurate data

• Maintain equipment data points, trending, historization, and system integration records

• Support fault detection, diagnostics, and building performance optimization initiatives

• Collaborate with engineering, facilities, and operations teams to improve system reliability and efficiency

• Document technical findings, integration updates, and system performance issues

• Assist with ongoing enhancements to building automation and energy management programs


Required Qualifications

• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Building Management Systems (BMS)

• Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls, and building equipment operation

• Experience with communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, or similar

• Ability to troubleshoot controls, integrations, alarms, and equipment connectivity issues

• Experience working with building system data points, trending, and monitoring platforms

• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced technical environment


Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD/FDDx)

• Background in smart buildings, energy systems, or facilities automation

• Experience with building performance monitoring and analytics tools

• Familiarity with large commercial or campus-scale building operations

• Experience supporting energy efficiency or smart building initiatives
