Description
We're looking for a Controller who is strategic, meticulous, and trustworthy - someone who takes true ownership of the numbers and the business behind them.
The title is Controller. The real job is building the financial foundation this company scales on.
Your Day-to-Day
Financial Reporting & Controls
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
• Prepare and oversee accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Design, implement, and continuously improve internal controls across the organization.
• Develop accounting policies, procedures, and standardized processes.
• Ensure the integrity of ERP data, reconciliations, and accounting system modules.
Risk & Insurance Management
• Coordinate insurance renewals and serve as the primary financial liaison with insurance brokers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
• Manage the administration of insurance claims, ensuring timely reporting, documentation, reserve tracking, and claim resolution.
• Partner with project teams to resolve project-specific insurance matters, including builder's risk claims, subcontractor insurance compliance, owner requirements, and contract insurance provisions.
Planning, Forecasting & Analysis
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Perform budget-to-actual variance analysis and provide actionable financial insights.
• Develop executive reporting, financial models, and KPI dashboards to support strategic decision-making.
• Manage cash flow forecasting, treasury functions, and banking relationships.
• Oversee capital expenditure planning and financial analysis.
Leadership & Process Improvement
• Coordinate annual audits and manage relationships with external auditors.
• Manage tax compliance, intercompany accounting, and regulatory reporting.
• Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve efficiency through technology.
• Mentor and develop accounting staff while partnering with leaders across the business.
The Right Fit
You're a strong fit if you:
• Have 8-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, hold an active CPA license, and a bachelor's degree in accounting.
• Bring strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise, with a track record leading audits and financial statement preparation.
• Have established and maintained internal controls, and have real experience in budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A.
• Bring treasury, cash flow, tax, and intercompany accounting experience.
• Are ERP-savvy, with a genuine passion for process improvement and technology.
• Have construction industry experience - preferred but not required.
• Have managed corporate insurance programs, claims, and construction-related risk - preferred but not required.
• Lead collaboratively and approachably, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and stay process-oriented, detail-driven, and curious about the business beyond the numbers.
Our Values
We hire for character as much as credentials. These four traits define the people who succeed at MCL:
Passionate - you care deeply about the work, the craft, and the people around you. This is more than a job to you.
Dedicated - you show up fully every day. When things get hard-and they will-you stay engaged.
Thorough - details matter. You don't hand something off or close it out until it's done right.
Respectful - you treat the owner, the sub, the laborer, and everyone in between with respect. It's not situational here-it's the standard.
What You're Walking Into
MCL Construction has been building Omaha and the surrounding region since 1987. We build with integrity, show up with purpose, and leave every project - and every relationship - better than we found it. Our reputation is built on people who show up, lead from the front, and take real pride in what gets built.
As Controller, you'll lead the accounting function while helping build scalable financial processes, strengthen internal controls, develop our FP&A capabilities, and partner with leadership to support continued growth.
If you want meaningful work with people who hold a high standard and have each other's backs, MCL is the place.
Competitive Compensation Package with benefits including: Medical, Dental & Vision • 401(k) with company match • Generous PTO • Travel opportunities • And more
You don't just close the books. You give leadership the clarity to make big decisions with confidence.
Ready to build the financial backbone of a growing contractor?
