What is a build manager?

Build Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the process of compiling, packaging, and deploying software applications. They coordinate between development, testing, and operations teams to ensure that software builds are stable, reliable, and delivered on time. Build Managers often use automation tools to streamline the build and deployment process, troubleshoot integration issues, and maintain build scripts or pipelines. Their role is crucial in continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) environments, helping to ensure smooth and efficient software releases.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a build manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Build Manager, you need expertise in construction management, project scheduling, budgeting, and a relevant degree or certification in construction or engineering. Familiarity with project management software like MS Project or Primavera, as well as understanding of building codes and safety regulations, is typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you effectively coordinate teams and resolve on-site challenges. These skills ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards.

What are some common challenges build managers face when coordinating cross-functional teams during large-scale projects?

Build Managers often encounter challenges such as aligning priorities among diverse teams (like development, QA, and operations), managing tight deadlines, and ensuring seamless communication across departments. These challenges require strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to quickly resolve conflicts and adapt to changing project requirements. Successful Build Managers proactively set clear expectations, leverage project management tools, and regularly check in with stakeholders to keep projects on track.

Job description

About Manna

At Manna, we're changing how the world receives things - by taking delivery to the skies.

Our mission is simple but ambitious: to make high-speed suburban delivery affordable, green, and safe. We design and build our own aviation-grade drones that deliver food, coffee, groceries, and more directly from local stores and vendors to people's doors in just a few minutes.

We're a team that Drive with Impact, are Safety Focused, and knows that the best ideas come from Team Players who show up as their Authentic Selves. We move fast, we are passionate about what we do, and we're always pushing a growth mindset to be better in everything we do.

If you want to build world-changing technology with real-world impact (and have a bit of fun while doing it), you'll love it here.

Welcome to Manna - where we deliver the future.

Role Purpose

We are hiring a Community Engagement Manager. As Manna launches in Tulsa, this role is accountable for building genuine, grassroots-level acceptance of the service in the local community

This is a highly visible, relationship-driven role, one of four roles across the corporate affairs team, all reporting directly to Director of Corporate Affairs.

Objective: build local trust and acceptance by embedding Manna in the Tulsa community and developing strong, lasting local relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Local Government Touchpoint (On-the-Ground Support)

Attend routine local government meetings, council sessions, and informal touchpoints that don't require the Director of Corporate Affairs' in-person presence.

Build informal, on-the-ground familiarity with council staff and local officials between scheduled visits.

Feed local context, sentiment, and emerging issues back to the Director of Corporate Affairs in a timely way.

Support logistics for visits and meetings when Manna Leadership are in Tulsa.

Create Positive Familiarity

Maintain a regular presence in schools, community events, and local spaces.

Demonstrate what Manna does in a simple, tangible, approachable way.

Reinforce key themes of safety, benefits to the community, and innovation.

Build a Network of Local Support

Develop advocates across schools, clubs, community leadership and local businesses.

Identify and cultivate voices who will speak positively about Manna in the community.

Be the Local Face of the Company

Maintain a visible, approachable, and consistent local presence.

Build relationships with community leaders, schools and educators, and local groups and organizations.

Collaboration with Communications & Community Coordinator

Work in close day-to-day partnership with the PR & Communications Manager to ensure local content and insight-gathering supports community engagement goals.

What You'll Bring

Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills; comfortable representing a company at community events and informal government touchpoints.

Comfortable acting as the local execution partner to a more senior, remote-based stakeholder lead: strong communicator, reliable follow-through, no ego about who's in the room.

Experience managing or mentoring a junior team member is a plus.

Experience & Requirements

3+ years in community engagement, local government, education outreach, nonprofit relations, or similar people-facing local roles.

Deep familiarity with, or roots in, the Tulsa/Oklahoma community.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

What Success Looks Like at 6-12 Months

A recognizable, trusted local presence for Manna across key Tulsa community touchpoints.

An active network of community advocates that can be called on to support the company publicly.

A strong, well-coordinated working partnership with the PR & Communications Manager with local insight flowing consistently into the wider team.
