Position Summary
The Coordinator, Budget assists the Executive Director, Budget, Purchasing, & Financial Planning in the development, administration, and monitoring of the College's operating and capital budgets. This position coordinates the annual budget process; provides technical guidance to departments; reviews and evaluates budget submissions, transfers, and revisions for accuracy and compliance; and ensures adherence to College policies, Board directives, and applicable regulations. The Budget Coordinator acts as an operational intermediary between the Executive Director, Budget, Purchasing, & Financial Planning and Budget Specialist(s), providing direction, coordination, and quality control. The Coordinator, Budget serves as a backup to the Executive Director, Budget, Purchasing, & Financial Planning when directed and may provide supervisory guidance to budget staff as assigned.
Primary Duties Performed
  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, Budget, Purchasing, & Financial Planning, coordinates the annual operating budget development process, including timelines, instructions, templates, and submission tracking.
  • Assigns, reviews, and evaluates work of Budget Specialist(s) as directed; mentors, trains, and provides guidance on budget processes, Banner transactions, and reporting requirements.
  • Reviews departmental budget submissions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with College policies prior to approval or escalation.
  • Assists departments with developing budget requests, estimates, and supporting documentation.
  • Reviews and evaluates budget transfers, funding requests, and revisions to ensure availability of funds and compliance with approved budgets.
  • Coordinates budget adjustments related to staffing actions in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Monitors approved budgets and prepares routine budget status reports, variance analyses, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensures proper budget coding and alignment with fund, organization, program, and account structures.
  • Uses Banner, reporting tools, and spreadsheets to analyze, reconcile, and validate budget data.
  • Assists in preparation of budget materials for leadership review, Board presentations, audits, accreditation, and state reporting.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for departmental budget inquiries and provides technical guidance.
  • Supports continuous improvement of budget processes, documentation, internal controls, and workflow efficiency.
  • Delivers briefings, updates, and reports as requested by management.
  • Maintains working knowledge of Missouri statutes, governmental budgeting standards, College Board policies, and internal procedures related to budgeting.

Qualifications/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and three (3) years of relevant full-time budgeting or financial experience.
  • Five (5)+ years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or governmental finance is preferred.
  • Experience in higher education or public sector budgeting preferred.
