Job description

THE ROLE

The Shift Supervisor is the person who keeps things running when it counts. As a floor leader, you're the one guests & team members turn to when they need a quick answer, a calm hand, or someone to just get things sorted. You'll own operational execution, guest experience, compliance oversight, & real-time problem-solving across every shift.

Day to day, that means leading the sales floor, supporting Retail Associates, keeping cash handling & inventory tight, and making sure the store stays safe, compliant, & welcoming - all at once. When store leadership is out, you're the Manager on Duty. No pressure. (Okay, a little pressure - but the good kind.)

This role works closely with the Retail Manager & Assistant Manager to hit store goals, keep operations consistent, & contribute to the kind of place people actually like coming in to. You'll also have alarm access, and may support operational investigations, inventory reconciliation, security procedures, & cannabis deliveries as needed.

CORE COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

You bring:

  • Working knowledge of Michigan cannabis regulations, security requirements, inventory procedures & age verification
  • Genuine interest in the cannabis industry & a drive to keep learning
  • Leadership presence - you can coach & motivate in real time, not just in hindsight
  • Problem-solving instincts suited for a fast-paced floor
  • Comfort with POS systems & retail technology
  • Solid cash handling & transactional accuracy
  • A hospitality-first mindset - every guest interaction matters
  • Clear verbal & written communication
  • Sound judgment under pressure
  • The ability to manage difficult situations with professionalism & calm
  • Strong organizational skills & comfort multitasking
  • Discretion with sensitive information
  • Emotional intelligence & self-awareness
  • High integrity & accountability - you do what you say you'll do
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Metrc or other seed-to-sale systems (preferred)
  • Analytical & investigative thinking
  • A continuous improvement mindset - always looking for a better way

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP & FLOOR MANAGEMENT

  • Lead by example - set the tone for a positive, accountable, guest-focused shift every time
  • Serve as Manager on Duty when store leadership is away
  • Build shift assignments & break schedules that keep operations humming
  • Provide real-time coaching, feedback & support to Retail Associates
  • Escalate employee performance concerns to management as appropriate
  • Support onboarding & training for new team members
  • Help maintain accountability around attendance, punctuality & performance
  • Keep an eye on transaction flow & guest wait times during peak hours

RETAIL OPERATIONS

  • Execute opening & closing procedures as scheduled
  • Keep the floor clean, organized & running efficiently
  • Cover point-of-sale duties as needed to support guest flow
  • Deliver advanced product knowledge to guests & team members
  • Assist with line management during high-volume periods
  • Ensure every guest interaction reflects Bud's hospitality standards
  • Support daily sales & operational goals

INVENTORY & COMPLIANCE

  • Perform opening & closing inventory procedures as needed
  • Support inventory receiving & count procedures
  • Assist with inventory investigations & reconciliation
  • Ensure daily counts are completed accurately - escalate discrepancies promptly
  • Maintain compliance with all state cannabis regulations, security procedures & company policies
  • Run daily compliance & ID verification briefings with lobby staff
  • Support compliance-focused training & operational consistency across the store

CASH HANDLING & SECURITY

  • Ensure transaction accuracy: correct products, pricing, discounts & payment processing
  • Provide cash drops & change to POS stations as needed
  • Support cash discrepancy investigations & reconciliation
  • Coordinate cash deposits through approved third-party courier services
  • Support investigations involving operational incidents, security concerns, inventory discrepancies or cash handling issues
  • Review surveillance footage & access control records as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism & neutrality throughout investigations

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a safe, compliant & inclusive work environment
  • Take on additional duties as assigned by retail leadership
  • Contribute to operational initiatives & process improvement efforts

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to stand for extended periods
  • Able to lift & move up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Able to bend, reach, crouch & move through the facility safely
  • Available for flexible scheduling based on business needs

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a fast-paced cannabis retail environment with frequent interaction with guests, team members, cannabis products, cash handling procedures & security protocols. Strict adherence to all company policies & state cannabis regulations is required at all times.
