What are Buccaneers?

Buccaneers were originally seafaring adventurers and pirates who operated in the Caribbean Sea during the 17th century. They are best known for attacking Spanish ships and settlements, often working independently or with unofficial support from European governments. Over time, the term 'buccaneer' has also become associated with romanticized images of swashbuckling pirates in popular culture. Today, the word is also used as a mascot or team name, such as for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL.
