What is a BTP?

BTP professionals are individuals who work in the Building and Public Works sector, which is known as 'Bâtiment et Travaux Publics' (BTP) in French. These professionals may include engineers, architects, construction managers, and skilled tradespeople who are involved in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of buildings, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure projects. BTP roles require strong technical skills, attention to safety, and often collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders. Careers in BTP can offer diverse opportunities, from hands-on construction work to project management and technical design. The sector plays a critical role in economic development and urban planning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a BTP, and why are they important?

To thrive as a BTP (Building and Public Works Technician), you need solid knowledge in civil engineering, construction techniques, and project management, typically supported by a relevant diploma or technical degree. Familiarity with CAD software, construction management systems, and safety regulations is essential for daily tasks. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help technicians coordinate with stakeholders and resolve site issues efficiently. These skills ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to required quality standards.

What are some common challenges that BTP consultants face when working with clients, and how can they overcome them?

BTP consultants often encounter challenges such as aligning technical solutions with diverse business requirements, managing integration complexities across various SAP and non-SAP systems, and keeping up with rapid advancements in cloud technologies. To overcome these, it's important to maintain strong communication with stakeholders, continuously update technical skills through training, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams. Being proactive and adaptable helps ensure smooth project delivery and client satisfaction.

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled SAP BTP Engineer to join our SAP Basis and Platform Engineering team. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing SAP solutions across SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), SAP HANA, SAP Solution Manager, and cloud infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Azure.
The SAP BTP Engineer will act as both a technical expert and strategic enabler, translating IT strategy into actionable platform capabilities, socializing BTP services, and identifying opportunities to modernize and automate SAP landscapes. The role supports both on-premise and cloud-hosted SAP systems, partners closely with Infrastructure and Security teams, and may lead medium to large-scale technical initiatives.
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a deep understanding of current and planned SAP BTP services and capabilities.
  • Socialize BTP capabilities across IT and business teams and roadmap opportunities to leverage the platform effectively.
  • Recommend, design, and implement SAP BTP services and technologies to support integration, extension, automation, and analytics use cases.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, standardization, and automation, acting as a positive change agent within the SAP ecosystem.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize the technical infrastructure supporting SAP systems, both on-premise and in the cloud.
  • Perform system changes, migrations, upgrades, patches, and enhancements across a complex SAP landscape including SAP S/4 HANA and SAP Solution Manager.
  • Manage backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Install, monitor, troubleshoot, and evolve SAP technical environments to ensure stability, performance, and scalability.
  • Generate system health and performance reports and maintain accurate technical documentation.
  • Host and operate SAP systems in Microsoft Azure, including deployment, optimization, and cost-effective resource management.
  • Coordinate and partner with Infrastructure, Cloud, and Security teams to ensure alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Partner with external vendors and system integrators to configure and implement SAP solutions.
  • Support audit, governance, and compliance processes, ensuring SAP environments meet internal and external requirements.
  • Translate IT strategies into tactical technical initiatives and executable roadmaps.
  • Lead or contribute to medium to large-sized projects, providing technical direction and mentoring as needed.
  • Perform increasingly complex analysis, problem solving, implementation, and documentation activities.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive or relevant IT experience, including but not limited to SAP Basis administration, SAP HANA database management, SAP BTP and other SAP cloud hosted environments.
  • Advanced SAP domain expertise, particularly in SAP BTP, SAP Basis, and SAP HANA
  • Advanced IT Engineering competencies, including cloud infrastructure, automation, and platform operations
  • Proven experience designing and implementing SAP BTP solutions
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and performance-optimization skills
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborative mindset with strong vendor and cross-team partnership skills.
  • Strong understanding of SAP architecture, landscape design, and system integration
  • Experience with Azure best practices for SAP workloads
  • Relevant SAP certifications (BTP, Basis, HANA, or Cloud) highly valued.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
