What is a BTP?

BTP professionals are individuals who work in the Building and Public Works sector, which is known as 'Bâtiment et Travaux Publics' (BTP) in French. These professionals may include engineers, architects, construction managers, and skilled tradespeople who are involved in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of buildings, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure projects. BTP roles require strong technical skills, attention to safety, and often collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders. Careers in BTP can offer diverse opportunities, from hands-on construction work to project management and technical design. The sector plays a critical role in economic development and urban planning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a BTP, and why are they important?

To thrive as a BTP (Building and Public Works Technician), you need solid knowledge in civil engineering, construction techniques, and project management, typically supported by a relevant diploma or technical degree. Familiarity with CAD software, construction management systems, and safety regulations is essential for daily tasks. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help technicians coordinate with stakeholders and resolve site issues efficiently. These skills ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to required quality standards.

What are some common challenges that BTP consultants face when working with clients, and how can they overcome them?

BTP consultants often encounter challenges such as aligning technical solutions with diverse business requirements, managing integration complexities across various SAP and non-SAP systems, and keeping up with rapid advancements in cloud technologies. To overcome these, it's important to maintain strong communication with stakeholders, continuously update technical skills through training, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams. Being proactive and adaptable helps ensure smooth project delivery and client satisfaction.

Is the Btp a good career choice?

A BTP (Building and Transport Project) career typically involves working in infrastructure, construction, or transportation sectors, requiring technical skills and safety awareness. It can offer stable employment and opportunities for advancement, especially with relevant certifications and experience. The suitability depends on individual interests in these fields and willingness to work in potentially demanding environments.

Job description

Role Overview

As an SAP BTP Architect at Mindset, you own the platform underneath our clients' SAP innovation work. You will design and run BTP landscapes, set up identity and access, build the transport and CI/CD paths that move code from development to production, and architect the CAP, Fiori, and Work Zone applications that sit on top.

This is a hands-on architecture role, not a slideware role. You will move between advising a client on subaccount and entitlement strategy in the morning and debugging an app router or an IAS trust configuration in the afternoon. You will also help operate Mindset's own BTP landscape, which is where our accelerators and internal products are built.

The role suits an architect who likes owning a platform end to end, who is comfortable being the person a delivery team escalates to, and who wants to work across many clients rather than one.

Key Responsibilities
  • Platform Architecture and Governance: Design BTP global account and subaccount structures, entitlements, quotas, Cloud Foundry orgs and spaces, and naming and governance standards across development, quality, and production landscapes.
  • Identity and Access: Configure and troubleshoot SAP Cloud Identity Services (IAS/IPS), XSUAA, role collections, and trust to corporate identity providers including Microsoft Entra ID and Google. Manage S-user provisioning and business user onboarding at scale.
  • Application Architecture: Architect and review CAP services, SAPUI5 and Fiori Elements applications, the HTML5 application repository, destinations, and managed versus standalone app router patterns.
  • Digital Workplace: Design and deliver SAP Build Work Zone sites (standard and advanced edition), including content federation from S/4HANA, spaces and pages, roles, custom domains, and theming.
  • Lifecycle and DevOps: Stand up transport and release paths using Cloud Transport Management Service, Content Agent Service, and BTP CI/CD with Git-triggered pipelines. Make promotion to production boring and repeatable.
  • Integration: Architect integration flows on SAP Integration Suite, including API Management and connectivity between SAP and non-SAP systems.
  • Client Advisory: Run BTP enablement workshops, architecture assessments, and roadmap sessions. Serve as the escalation point when a client platform breaks.
  • Internal Platform Ownership: Share administration of Mindset's own BTP landscape, including access requests, service enablement, and the environments our accelerators are built in.
  • Enablement: Coach delivery teams and client teams on BTP patterns, clean core extensibility, and platform standards. Contribute to our internal Centers of Excellence.
  • Pre-Sales Support: Support scoping, effort estimation, demos, and proofs of value for new BTP opportunities.
  • Travel: Ability to travel as needed up to 20 to 25%.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 7+ years of SAP experience, including 3+ years hands-on architecting and administering SAP BTP.
  • Platform Administration:
  • Global account, directory, and subaccount design; entitlements and quota management
  • Cloud Foundry orgs, spaces, and service instances
  • Destinations, connectivity, and Cloud Connector
  • Security and Identity:
  • SAP Cloud Identity Services (IAS and IPS), XSUAA, role collections and role templates
  • SAML and OpenID Connect trust configuration to enterprise identity providers
  • Principal propagation between BTP and S/4HANA or ECC
  • Development Architecture:
  • SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP), Node.js or Java
  • SAPUI5 and Fiori Elements, OData V2 and V4
  • SAP Build Work Zone, standard and advanced edition
  • SAP Business Application Studio
  • Lifecycle Management: Cloud Transport Management Service, Content Agent Service, BTP CI/CD or comparable pipeline tooling, and Git-based workflows.
  • Integration: Working knowledge of SAP Integration Suite (Cloud Integration and API Management) and common SAP integration patterns.
  • Consulting Competencies: Clear written and verbal communication, ability to run a workshop, and the judgment to tell a client when a design will not hold up.
Nice to Have Qualifications
  • SAP Certified Professional, Solution Architect for SAP BTP (P_BTPA), or equivalent BTP certification.
  • SAP Build Process Automation, SAP Build Apps, or SAP Mobile Services and MDK.
  • SAP HANA Cloud administration and performance tuning.
  • ABAP and clean core extensibility, including ABAP Cloud and RAP.
  • BTP security assessment and remediation work, or experience with SAP security tooling such as SailPoint integration.
  • Exposure to SAP Business Data Cloud, Datasphere, or SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • Experience with SAP AI Core, AI Launchpad, or Joule agent development.
  • Experience supporting multiple clients concurrently in a consulting or managed services model.
