Compensation Analyst
Location: Syracuse, NY or Charlotte, NC (Hybrid, 2 to 3 days onsite per week)
Duration: 7-Month Contract with Potential for Extension or Conversion
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Compensation Analyst to join a Wealth Management Compensation Operations team. This role will support the accurate and timely processing of advisor and field compensation, working with large volumes of financial data received from third-party providers. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, advanced Excel expertise, and experience working in a fast-paced financial services environment.
This position is an excellent opportunity for professionals with a background in finance, compensation operations, commissions processing, accounting, or financial services operations. Experience supporting advisor compensation and commission structures is highly preferred, but candidates with strong financial analysis or accounting experience and the ability to learn quickly will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
  • Process and validate compensation data received from third-party providers on a daily basis.
  • Review, reconcile, and analyze compensation files to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support weekly compensation payments for a large advisor population.
  • Process manual compensation payments and adjustments, ensuring all required approvals and documentation are obtained.
  • Handle compensation corrections, discrepancies, and exceptions by researching issues and implementing appropriate resolutions.
  • Process third-party money manager compensation and representative changes.
  • Support financial planning compensation calculations and processing activities.
  • Investigate and resolve compensation-related inquiries in partnership with operations, finance, payroll, technology, and service teams.
  • Maintain detailed records, audit documentation, processing logs, and supporting materials.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end compensation activities, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities that increase operational efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve data accuracy.
  • Participate in system enhancements, testing initiatives, special projects, and process improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5 to 8 years of professional experience in finance, accounting, compensation operations, commissions administration, payroll operations, or financial services.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, data analysis, reconciliations, filtering, lookups, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Comfortable managing sensitive financial and compensation-related information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting advisor compensation, commissions processing, broker-dealer operations, wealth management, or financial advisory services.
  • Knowledge of commission payment structures and compensation administration.
  • Experience working with compensation, payroll, financial reporting, or operations systems.
  • Familiarity with ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or similar financial systems.
  • Experience reconciling large datasets and processing daily transaction files from multiple sources.
  • Background in accounting or financial operations.
Interview Process
  • Two rounds of virtual interviews.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will be highly analytical, Excel-savvy, and comfortable working with large datasets and compensation calculations in a fast-paced operational environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex reconciliation issues, ensuring data accuracy, and supporting critical compensation processes that directly impact financial advisors and business operations.
