Job Description The Michigan Department of Corrections is proud to be a Michigan Veteran's Affairs Agency (MVAA) Gold Level Veteran Friendly Employer. This position serves as the department's recognized resource for statewide external communications, marketing, and social media strategy. It leads the planning, development, and execution of high-impact communication materials, campaigns, and digital initiatives that support departmental priorities and positively shape public understanding of the department.

This position manages the department's $2 million marketing budget, oversees multi-channel content development, ensures compliance with State of Michigan communication and social media standards, and provides expert guidance to departmental staff and leadership. This position also prepares and distributes external communication materials, including press releases, fact sheets, reports, and presentations, responds professionally to public inquiries and maintains the department's social media presence. Additionally, this position attends statewide events to gather content, uses platforms such as GovDelivery and Sitecore to disseminate information, and provides strategic and collaborative support to the Public Information Officer and other PIO staff, including assistance with speeches, media coordination, and operational continuity.

Required Education and Experience Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, public relations or a related field. Experience Communications Representative 9 No specific type or amount is required. Communications Representative 10 One year of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative 9.

Communications Representative P11 Two years of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative, including one year equivalent to a Communications Representative 10. Communications Representative 12 Three years of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative, including one year equivalent to a Communications Representative P11. Alternate Education and Experience Alternative Education and Experience Communications Representative 9 Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.

OR Completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 16 semester (24 term) credits in any combination of coursework in the following areas: English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, marketing, or public relations, AND two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement. OR Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement. Additional Requirements and Information Experience with social media platforms, including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.

Experience in the execution of social media strategies for a company or organization. Development of communication strategies and plans. Proficient user of social media, including emerging platforms.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and documentation. Ability to work professionally with a wide variety of people.
