CT Scan Technologist Part Time 32 Hours

Performs a variety of clerical and transportation functions for division of Diagnostic Services. Assists technologists with patients and equipment. Processes forms, paperwork and other materials related to patients and procedures.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Provides clerical support to department

  • Receives telephone calls from nursing unit and/or physicians' offices and schedules diagnostic services procedures in coordination with the technical staff. Confers with other departments for the coordination of patients to minimize waits and backlogs. Checks with nursing units to coordinate timing and administration of prescribed medications, preps and instructions.
  • Greets all customers and provides assistance as required. Monitors patients in the waiting areas. Periodically rechecks patients and reports any patient distress to the supervisor.
  • Operates standard office equipment including copy machines and computers. Performs various clerical functions for all divisions of Diagnostic Services including updating files and revising schedules.

Transports patients.

  • Transports patients to and from the Emergency room to the radiology departments and other radiology sections.
  • Assists patients into wheelchair, stretchers or vehicles. Provides assistance to ambulatory patients. Provides other forms of assistance to patients including helping with clothing, going to bathrooms, etc.
  • Follows all safety policies when transporting patients, such as universal precaution, fire safety, etc.
  • Verifies patient identification per Bristol Hospital policy.
  • As required, transports medical equipment, such as I-med machines, portable oxygen tanks, etc.
  • Coordinates transportation of in-patients to and from the CT unit.

Assists Technologists.

  • Assists in positioning patients.
  • Helps coordinate STAT appointments with the Technologist in charge.

Maintains communications.

  • Preliminarily explains procedure to patients and helps provide reassurance to anxious patients.
  • Explains consent forms.
  • Explains any backlogs or delays which may occur.
  • Reads reports to authorized staff over phones. Answers inquiries and provides requested assistance on matters dealing with Diagnostic Services.

Performs related duties

  • Checks and maintains supplies for designated area. Maintains equipment and work area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Assists with training and orientation of new employees.
  • May be assigned to work temporarily in other department, according to department needs.

Qualifications

Educational / Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma.

State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:

None

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:

General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital.

BLS at time of hire from American Red Cross or American Heart Association

Special Requirements:

Good customer service, telephone and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of medical terminology, as well as typing, data entry skills.

Physical Requirements:

On feet 50% of day with lifting 50 lbs. or more routinely. Physical agility including but not limited to bending, stooping, walking, reaching, standing, pulling, pushing and twisting. Hearing and sign corrected to normal. Ability to verbalize so the average person can comprehend.

Work Environment:

Worker must adjust to performing routine, repetitive tasks under specific supervision. Worker will be performing in a magnetic field area. Employee may frequently be exposed to blood, body tissues or fluids; hazardous waste materials; unpleasant noises and other patient elements.

Cognitive Requirements:

Good clerical skills, good written and oral communications skills, literate in English. Good organizational skills with ability to follow written and verbal instructions with multiple steps.
