Job description

Automotive Service Advisor / Service Writer
Experience Preferred-but Not Required. We Will Train the Right Person.
Briggs Auto Group | Topeka, Kansas
Briggs Auto Group is looking for a motivated, customer-focused Service Advisor / Service Writer to join our team.
Automotive experience is valuable, but it is not required. We can teach dealership systems, repair-order processes, maintenance schedules, and manufacturer procedures. What we need from you are three qualities that cannot be taught overnight:
Character. Communication. Competence.
Good Character
We are looking for someone who:
  • Does the right thing, even when no one is watching.
  • Treats customers and coworkers with honesty and respect.
  • Takes ownership of problems and follows through on commitments.
  • Can be trusted with customer relationships, vehicles, and sensitive information.
  • Brings a dependable, professional attitude to work every day.
Good Communication Skills
A successful Service Advisor must be able to:
  • Listen carefully to customer concerns.
  • Ask the right questions to accurately document vehicle issues.
  • Explain recommended maintenance and repairs in clear, understandable language.
  • Provide timely updates throughout the repair process.
  • Communicate effectively with technicians, parts personnel, managers, and customers.
  • Handle difficult conversations calmly and professionally.
Good Competence
You do not need to know everything about vehicles on your first day. You do need to be:
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable learning new systems and processes.
  • Able to manage multiple customers and repair orders at the same time.
  • Capable of prioritizing responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Accountable for accurate documentation and consistent follow-up.
  • Focused on completing tasks correctly-not simply quickly.
What You Will Do
As a Service Advisor, you will serve as the primary connection between our customers and the service department.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Greeting customers and identifying their service needs.
  • Preparing accurate repair orders.
  • Documenting customer concerns clearly for the technician.
  • Reviewing vehicle maintenance history and recommended services.
  • Communicating inspection results, repair recommendations, pricing, and estimated completion times.
  • Obtaining customer authorization before additional work is performed.
  • Providing customers with timely progress updates.
  • Coordinating with technicians, parts personnel, and service management.
  • Reviewing completed repairs and invoices with customers.
  • Following up after the service visit to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Maintaining accurate records within dealership systems.
  • Supporting departmental goals for customer satisfaction, retention, productivity, and sales.
Who Should Apply?
This opportunity may be a strong fit for:
  • Experienced automotive Service Advisors or Service Writers.
  • Customer-service professionals ready to enter the automotive industry.
  • Retail, hospitality, sales, or call-center professionals with strong communication skills.
  • Technicians interested in moving into a customer-facing position.
  • Individuals who are organized, coachable, dependable, and motivated to build a career.

Previous dealership experience is helpful, but it is not required. Briggs will train the right person who demonstrates strong character, communication skills, and the ability to learn.
What Success Looks Like
Successful Service Advisors at Briggs:
  • Build trust with customers.
  • Set accurate expectations.
  • Keep customers informed.
  • Recommend needed services without creating unnecessary pressure.
  • Write complete and accurate repair orders.
  • Work as part of one service team.
  • Follow established processes.
  • Take responsibility for the customer experience from arrival through vehicle delivery.
What Briggs Offers
  • Training for qualified candidates without dealership experience.
  • Support from experienced service and dealership leadership.
  • Career-development and advancement opportunities.
  • A professional, team-oriented work environment.
  • Established processes, tools, and dealership resources.
  • Performance-based earning potential.

Join the Briggs Team
We are not looking only for someone who can write repair orders. We are looking for someone who can earn customer trust, communicate clearly, learn the business, and represent Briggs Auto Group professionally.
