Job description

ATANE Engineers, P.C. is seeking a skilled Bridge Load Rating Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will perform bridge load ratings, structural design, and engineering evaluations to determine live load capacities based on as-inspected conditions

Your work will directly support decisions related to load posting, rehabilitation, and bridge replacement, helping to ensure the safety and longevity of critical infrastructure. This position offers a balanced mix of office-based analysis and field inspections ideal for engineers who value both technical rigor and hands on proect involvement. Job Responsibilities Conduct structural analysis of highway bridges to determine load ratings for design, legal, and permit vehicles using available plans, inspection reports, and prior ratings.

Work with various structural materials including steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, masonry, and timber. Prepare detailed notes, calculations, reports, and other deliverables based on client requirements. Apply critical-thinking skills to develop engineering concepts and solutions.

Perform quality control reviews of work done by other engineers. Provide technical advice regarding the structural behavior of bridges, guiding inspectors to critical locations or assessing the severity of member section losses. Analyze ancillary structures such as supports for highway signs, luminaires, and traffic signals.

Provide recommendations for improving or maintaining the condition of structures. Develop repair details for structures with advanced section loss or damage. Perform additional duties as required.Qualifications Strong capability to establish and maintain positive client relationships while supporting overall project performance, quality and schedule adherence

Thorough understanding of Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) standards, practices, and procedures. Education Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering Master's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is a plus. Required Experience Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural analysis, design, and load rating of highway and/or railroad bridges, culverts, and sign supports on state-specific DOT or Transportation Agency projects.

Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with a passion for learning and collaboration. Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Manual, Manual for Bridge Evaluation (MBE), and state-specific Design Standards. Proficient in structural analysis/design software such as AASHTOWare BrR, MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Excel, and MathCAD.

Experience with ConnDOT, RIDOT, and/or MassDOT is a strong plus. Required Credentials Applicants must hold at least one of the following Certified Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) is a plus. Valid Driver's License

2-3 years of experience in structural analysis, design, and/or bridge load rating. Compensation Actual compensation will be determined based on job related factors including but not limited to experience, certifications, education, geographic location, shift requirements, internal equity and business need, in accordance with applicable state and local pay transparency laws.
