Bridge Load Rating Engineer
Location: New York, NY
ATANE Engineers is seeking a skilled Bridge Load Rating Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will perform bridge load ratings, structural design, and other evaluations to determine live load capacities based on As-Inspected conditions. Your work will help assess the need for load posting, rehabilitation, or bridge replacement. This position offers a mix of office and field work.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct structural analysis of highway bridges to determine load ratings for design, legal, and permit vehicles using available plans, inspection reports, and prior ratings.
  • Work with various structural materials including steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, masonry, and timber.
  • Prepare detailed notes, calculations, reports, and other deliverables based on client requirements.
  • Apply critical-thinking skills to develop engineering concepts and solutions.
  • Perform quality control reviews of work done by other engineers.
  • Provide technical advice regarding the structural behavior of bridges, guiding inspectors to critical locations or assessing the severity of member section losses.
  • Analyze ancillary structures such as supports for highway signs, luminaires, and traffic signals.
  • Provide recommendations for improving or maintaining the condition of structures.
  • Develop repair details for structures with advanced section loss or damage.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Skills & Abilities:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural analysis, design, and load rating of highway and/or railroad bridges, culverts, and sign supports on state-specific DOT or Transportation Agency projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with a passion for learning and collaboration.
  • Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Manual, Manual for Bridge Evaluation (MBE), and state-specific Design Standards.
  • Proficient in structural analysis/design software such as AASHTOWare BrR, MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Excel, and MathCAD.
  • Experience with state DOT agencies is a strong plus.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Master's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is a plus.
  • Certified Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) is a plus.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • 2-3 years of experience in structural analysis, design, and/or bridge load rating.
