Your Opportunity
Stantec's New York City office is seeking a highly motivated Bridge Design Engineer to support our growing New York Bridge and Transportation practice to support engineering teams on large infrastructure design projects and pursuits.
You will work under direct supervision of a Senior Bridge Engineer to assist on design of projects such as bridges, highway interchanges, roadway reconstruction and public spaces. This position requires a strong track record of delivering complex and AASHTO-based bridge design, design-build projects and related structures.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed structural analyses, including finite element modeling and load rating, ensuring compliance with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design and local requirements
  • Develop project design deliverables including design criteria, design plans, design specifications, quantities and related calculations for various design projects under Design/Build and Design/Bid/Build environments.
  • Prepare and review steel, concrete design calculations, quantity take-offs, cost estimates and technical reports
  • Supervise, mentor and technically guide junior bridge engineers and CAD designers
  • Lead preparation of design and construction documents in accordance with NYSDOT and other local agency standards
  • Assist in resolving complex technical problems and exercise independent decision making.
  • Review and approve show drawings, supplier submittals including RFIs and field-design changes
  • Support design-build pursuits, including development of technical and schematic concepts
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines (highway, traffic, geotechnical)

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Licensed or ability to obtain the Professional Engineer license in the States of NY and NJ.
  • Proficiency in software such as CSI Bridge, FBMP, PCA Structure Point Suite, AutoDesk Structural Bridge Design, LARSA 4D, Bentley OpenBridge Designer and similar.
  • Knowledge of Microstation, AutoCAD, OpenBridge and/Autodesk Construction Cloud, and/Bentley Suite.
  • Proficient knowledge of bridge design and rating codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with agencies such as NYSDOT, NYCDOT, MTA, PANYNJ, is desired

Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering from an accredited institution preferred or Bachelor's degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 5-10 years' experience in the bridge and structural design of transportation structures.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York (or ability to obtain)
  • Demonstrated experience delivering multi-span steel and concrete bridge projects (new designs and/rehabilitation)
  • Strong familiarity with relevant DOT standards, design manuals and standard sheets
  • Proficiency with bridge and structural design software such as:
    • CSI Bridge, LARSA, or similar
    • LEAP Bridge Design or similar
    • Microstation (required or ability to transition quickly)
  • Role can be hybrid but reporting to local Stantec office (minimum 3 days a week)
  • Experience with NYSDOT standards and local DOT agencies will be preferred

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year.
