Job description

The Bricklayer will use brick, concrete blocks, and stone materials to build walls, fences, and other structures.


JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Build walls, Stair shafts, Elevator Shafts, Foundation walls and other structures using bricks, stone, concrete blocks, or marble.
  • Consults with Foreman due to issues or deficiencies from other trades impacting the masonry scope of work.
  • Places brick or concrete blocks on mortar bed.
  • Cut or saw bricks to fit around windows and doors.
  • Measures distances to lay out work.
  • Ensures masonry work is true and level.
  • Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages.
  • Commercial masonry experience.
  • Understanding of flashing installation.
  • Spread mortar onto brick or block surface with a trowel.
  • Examines brickwork to ensure structure is built correctly.
  • Use equipment and tools to safely perform basic construction tasks.
  • Correct any safety hazards and report them to the foreman.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical/vocational school program preferred.
  • Proven three years of work experience as a Mason required.
  • Extensive knowledge of bricklaying techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Thorough understanding of math and geometry.
  • Experience working with other professionals on a construction site.
  • Formal training or equivalent preferred but not required.

The physical demands of this position require theability to demonstrate full range of motion with neck, arms, shoulders, hands, torso, legs and feet. Must be able to lift and carry materials and tools in excess of 50 lbs using abdominal and lower back muscles repeatedly and continuously over time. Prolonged periods of standing and working outside. Physically able to perform labor required to lay bricks and concrete blocks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend and stoop; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; see, talk and hear. Standing and walking is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee must be able to climb stairs and ladders and tolerate exposure to heights. Work assignments can require exposure to long hours outside in all types of adverse weather conditions, potentially hazardous environments, and at great heights. Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
