Job description

Front End Manager

Department: Front End
Reports To: Operations Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Level: $33.80 to 46.00 / hr. eqv.
Summary: Responsible to ensure the highest level of service possible to BriarPatch’s internal and external customers. Responsible to manage, motivate, and provide front end staff with the tools required to be successful in their jobs. Responsible for an organized and smoothly run front end (FE) department by maintaining the flow of operations, accurate cash handling, front end security, and communication with other departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
Customer Service:
  • Models and teaches BriarPatch’s Customer Service standards to all staff.
  • Provides support to staff and ultimately makes the final call in dealing with specific customer complaints and concerns.
  • Maintains a pleasant, helpful relationship with co-workers and customers.
  • Provides on-floor assistance as needed in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Safety and Security
  • Ensures store/staff compliance with health department, OSHA, labor laws and other legal guidelines.
  • Provides leadership in emergency/accident situations, following store procedures and completing necessary forms.
  • Maintains a safe work environment (e.g. Assists with customer spills, reports hazards and/or equipment failures to Operations Manager, etc.)
  • Maintains security of cash and currency.
  • Addresses shoplifting in accordance with store procedures.
  • Training and Leadership
  • Ensures training of FE staff on regular duties, safety, customer service, efficiency, and store policies and procedures.
  • Excellent public speaking skills and ability to hold groups focus.
  • Informs FE staff of storewide meetings, policy changes, events, etc. through the FE communication log.
  • Ensures FE staff’s adherence to all policies and procedures as outlined in the BriarPatch Personnel Policy.
  • Addresses performance issues of FE staff as outlined in the BriarPatch Personnel Policy.
  • Coaches, evaluates, and mentors FE staff, sets FE developmental goals.
  • Facilitates team building and identifies ways to improve or maintain team morale.
  • Guarantees the scheduling of regular team meetings and follows through on action items.
  • Administration
  • Oversees recruitment, selection, and hiring of qualified staff, in coordination with Human Resources and Operations Manager.
  • Ensures accuracy of all FE employee punches and complies with BriarPatch’s payroll processing procedures.
  • Oversees weekly department scheduling.
  • Models best practices; leads by positive, professional, and co-operative example.
  • Always punctual. Rarely absent. Works scheduled hours and informs staff of pending work when absent.
  • Completes and administers staff reviews on time every time.
  • Develops and refines FE policies and procedures in order to increase efficiency and meet hanging business needs.
  • Ensures cashier training's meet demand and are effective for producing quality cashiers.
  • Prepares training's and subject content for FE meetings.
  • Conducts monthly FE meetings.
  • Ensures FE inventory is ordered and stocked.
Finance:
  • Forecasts department needs and prepares department requests accordingly for the annual budgeting process.
  • Participates in development of operating and capital budgets for FE.
  • Reviews financial reports of FE performance, ensures department is on budget (e.g. monitors labor hours, wages, sales, efficiency, variances, etc.)
  • Communication
  • Keeps up with outreach and marketing projects to ensure smooth communications to FE staff.
  • Relays concerns and ideas from the FE to appropriate department managers.
  • Attends and participates in monthly Managers meeting.
  • Respects the common work space (cleans, organizes, improves, etc).
Responsibilities to Safety:
  • Protect the safety of self, co-worker's, and BriarPatch Co-op patrons at all times.
  • Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
  • Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to supervisor.
  • Follow all company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of self or others.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages 4 assistant managers to supervise a total of 40 employees in the Front End. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the BriarPatch Co-op’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED certificate; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to solve practical and complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or electronic form.
