Description
Atlanta Black Star is seeking an Associate News Editor to support our fast-paced digital newsroom. This role is ideal for someone with prior newsroom or news production experience who thrives in a real-time environment and is eager to grow within a high-performing editorial team.
Reporting directly to the News Editor, this role will play a critical part in executing daily coverage, monitoring breaking news, editing and publishing stories, and helping move content quickly from idea to publication.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer and editor with sharp news judgment, a deep interest in current events, and the ability to operate with urgency in a high-volume news cycle.
This role offers a strong growth path for candidates looking to build a career in digital journalism and editorial leadership.
Position Requirements
Responsibilities:
  • Support the News Editor in managing daily editorial output in a fast-paced newsroom
  • Monitor breaking news, social platforms, and competitor coverage throughout the day
  • Quickly surface story ideas and assist in developing angles for coverage
  • Edit, write, and publish stories with speed, accuracy, and strong editorial judgment
  • Assist in turning around breaking news stories under tight deadlines
  • Rewrite and adapt content from multiple sources into clean, engaging digital copy
  • Update stories in real time as new information becomes available
  • Collaborate with writers and social team to ensure stories are optimized for distribution
  • Maintain high editorial standards while working at speed

Required Experience:
  • 3-5+ years of experience in a digital newsroom, broadcast newsroom, or news production environment
  • Experience as a digital content producer, assignment editor, or newsroom coordinator strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
