Job description

Great Harvest Bread, Tempe AZ, is looking for a late night production baker with high energy and great passion for baking.

Great Harvest creates phenomenal breads, terrific goodies, and offers great hospitality. We are an authentic, from scratch artisan bakery, starting with milling our own wheat flour in house to hand icing our finished products. Real food with quality ingredients.

Baker hours start at 1:15-1:30 AM going till done, typically 8:30-9:00 AM & later based upon seasonal demand.

Availability Monday - Saturday. Currently closed on Sundays.

Previous commercial bread and/or pastry baking experience is preferred.

Minimum Required: Having developed personal baking skills using ingredients from scratch. Able to read, follow and occasionally convert measurements. Use recipes. Starting to/or have developed bakers intuition.

Position will receive on the job training specific to GH systems.

Part-time with the potential to move to full time.

Job requirements:

  • Experience with baking and following recipes
  • Culinary School certificate or AA degree and/or a baking portfolio a plus
  • Stable work history required
  • Occasionally lifting 60+ lbs.
  • Able to stand, walk, hear, see, lift, bend, stoop, reach, climb step stool/ladder, read, use tools and equipment, etc.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong math skills with percents, fractions, and bakery conversions, using bakers weights and imperial measurements.
  • Current Food Handlers Card

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensures that all products are created according to Great Harvest recipes and systems.
  • Uses measuring devices, thermometers, mixers, product knowledge and intuitive judgment according to Great Harvest’s standards of quality and consistency.
  • Develop a “single loaf” attitude about all products. Recognizing that every customer judges our products with every, single purchase.
  • Consistently shapes and portions of all products to specifications.
  • Helps to knead, shape and observe the doughs produced, to determine moisture, consistency and ensure the quality of products.
  • Accept informative feedback as to the quality of products to help hone the creation process as to what develops a “perfect loaf” on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in regular product testing to ensure that it maintains and meets all criteria for “perfect” products.
  • Learning how to self-correct to improve products, and maintain consistent quality.
  • Maintains records on dough consistency, and other systems.
  • Work in a clean and efficient manner.
  • Participate with daily clean down the production areas.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures.
  • Performs job-related duties as assigned and takes initiative to enhance the bakery’s quality and consistency.
  • Be available extra hours with potential for OT during holiday seasons and catering events, including: Mardi Gras, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, etc.
  • Take pride and satisfaction in a job well done.
