What is brand strategy?

Brand strategy is a long-term plan focused on the development and positioning of a brand to achieve specific business goals. It involves defining what the brand stands for, its core values, target audience, unique selling propositions, and overall messaging. A strong brand strategy helps differentiate a company from competitors, builds customer loyalty, and drives consistent marketing efforts. Effective brand strategies guide decisions across marketing, design, communications, and business development.

How does a brand strategist typically collaborate with other departments to execute a brand vision?

Brand Strategists work closely with marketing, creative, product, and sales teams to ensure the brand message is consistently communicated across all channels. They often facilitate workshops, lead brainstorming sessions, and coordinate campaign rollouts, acting as the bridge between creative ideas and business objectives. Regular collaboration ensures everyone is aligned on brand guidelines, voice, and positioning, which is essential for cohesive brand experiences. This cross-functional teamwork also exposes Brand Strategists to diverse perspectives and can open up opportunities for leadership and professional growth within the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a brand strategist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Brand Strategist, you need expertise in market research, brand positioning, and a solid understanding of consumer behavior, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Suite, and brand management platforms is commonly expected. Strong creative thinking, communication, and collaboration skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are critical for building compelling brand identities, driving marketing success, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Description
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a strategic and creative brand leader to shape how Meltwater shows up around the world.
As Director, Global Brand Strategy, you'll be the strategic steward of the Meltwater brand owning our global brand strategy, positioning and messaging, and ensuring our story remains distinctive and relevant as our market evolves.
You'll lead major global brand campaigns and sponsorships, shape the thought leadership themes we bring to market, oversee corporate social and partner marketing, and play a key role in shaping the core agenda for our flagship Meltwater Summit events.
This is a highly visible role for someone who can move between big-picture strategy and execution by bringing together market insight, strong storytelling and creative thinking to build a brand that stands out.
What You'll Do
  • Own and evolve Meltwater's global brand strategy, positioning, messaging architecture and brand narrative, collaborating across the broader Strategy organization to build a consistent and differentiated story across market and customer touchpoints.
  • Lead major global brand campaigns and sponsorships from strategy and creative brief through activation and measurement, partnering closely with cross-functional teams to deliver standout work.
  • Define the thought leadership themes and conversations Meltwater should be known for, translating them into integrated marketing initiatives across campaigns, content, social, events and other channels.
  • Shape the core agenda and editorial direction for Meltwater's flagship Summit events - defining key themes and topics, identifying speakers, and coaching speakers through the presentation development process to ensure sessions deliver real value for our audience.
  • Oversee Meltwater's global corporate social strategy, ensuring our channels build the brand, engage our audiences and amplify our most important stories.
  • Oversee global partner marketing strategy and develop programs that strengthen strategic partnerships and create meaningful brand and business value.
  • Use audience insights, competitive intelligence, and brand and campaign performance to identify opportunities, measure impact and continually evolve our strategy.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing global team across brand, social and partner marketing.
What You'll Bring
  • 8-10+ years of experience in brand strategy or brand marketing, ideally within a global B2B business
  • Proven experience developing and activating brand positioning, messaging and narrative, with a track record of leading high-impact integrated brand campaigns.
  • Exceptional storytelling and creative judgment, with the ability to turn complex ideas into compelling narratives and translate strategy into standout creative work.
  • A strong understanding of modern B2B brand building and how thought leadership, social, events, partnerships and demand work together.
  • Ability to quickly develop fluency in Meltwater's products, customers and competitive landscape and translate that understanding into sharper brand positioning and differentiation.
  • Strong analytical instincts, using audience, competitive and brand performance insights to inform strategy and measure impact.
  • Proven people leadership and strong executive presence, with the ability to influence, collaborate effectively across senior stakeholders and inspire teams.
  • Fluency with AI tools for research, ideation, content and marketing workflows
  • A strategic thinker who is equally comfortable setting the direction and rolling up their sleeves to make it happen.

What We Offer:
  • Enjoy flexible paid time off that allows you to have an enhanced work-life balance.
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision options
  • 401(k) matching, life insurance, commuter benefits, and parental leave plans
  • Complimentary CalmApp subscription for you and your loved ones, because mental wellness matters.
  • Energetic work environment with a hybrid work style, providing the balance you need.
  • Thrive within our inclusive community and seize ongoing professional development opportunities to elevate your career.
