Job description

Who are we?

Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries. People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. Itโ€™s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities โ€“ work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering โ€“ youโ€™ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

Role: Growth Execution Manager

Location: New York City

About the Role:

Our Growth Execution team was established over a year ago to drive the execution of growth strategies for various GPs. This team works across the GPs and focuses on identifying, prioritizing, and executing strategic growth initiatives. Currently made up of 12 talented Growth Execution Managers (GEMs), the team is integral to Howdenโ€™s continued success and growth in Specialty. As a Growth Execution Manager (GEM), youโ€™ll be at the forefront of driving meaningful change. Youโ€™ll work closely with GP Leaders, bringing your expertise to a diverse range of projects to drive significant growth and innovation within our global Specialty business. If youโ€™re a results-driven, proactive individual with a passion for making a real impact, weโ€™d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Growth Execution Focus
Partner with GP Leaders to identify and execute key initiatives across the six pillars of the Global Practices (Leadership, Strategy, Clients & Proposition, Insights, Brand & Marketing, Infrastructure & Support). Ensure tangible business outcomes by developing actionable plans, prioritizing opportunities with the highest global growth potential. Cultivate strong, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders across Howden, ensuring collaboration within the Union: Specialty, Geographies, and Reinsurance.
  • Strategic Planning and Delivery
Collaborate with fellow GEMs to create comprehensive development plans for each practice. Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project delivery and drive impactful outcomes. Proactively identify and mitigate risks to ensure projects remain on track and deliver.
  • Thought Leadership and Innovation
Lead the development and execution of innovative strategies to strengthen the capabilities and impact of our GPs, internally and externally. Facilitate internal forums to share insights, best practices, and thought leadership across practices.
Example Projects/Activities:

Collaborate with specialist teams to design and implement global propositions. Partner with local teams and marketing to develop sector-specific strategies and campaigns. Organise a Global conference from design to delivery. Develop a global SharePoint site to enhance best practice and knowledge sharing. Create a comprehensive training academy/ hub to support โ€˜high talentโ€™ colleagues and new starters. Build a global โ€˜toolboxโ€™ of resources, including wordings, marketing materials, and tools. Maintain a key win/ proposal log to track and celebrate successes.

Experience & Desirable Characteristics:
  • Experience in the insurance industry (not consulting for insurance, but direct experience of working in insurance).
  • 2-3 years of consulting, strategy, or project management experience.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
  • A team player who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Experience with data analysis is an advantage.
Compensation and Benefits:

The expected base salary range for this role is $130,000 - $170,000; actual base salary will be determined based on factors including candidate experience and work location. This role is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

In addition to a competitive base salary, employees are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.

Howden also offers a variety of benefits and programs, subject to eligibility, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, including healthcare savings and reimbursement accounts
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Flexible Paid Time Off and paid parental leave
  • Life and Disability insurance
Our sustainability promise

Weโ€™re on a life-long journey to become an ever-more sustainable group. It's a commitment to taking care of our people and the world we live in, to doing good business, and to making a positive impact wherever we can. Our governance processes, company policies, and review systems are all geared towards our goal of making a positive impact in the world. You can read more about our sustainability work here.

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity โ€“ there is no one Howden type. Instead, weโ€™re looking for individuals who share the same values as us: Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond

Reasonable adjustments

Weโ€™re committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs. Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours* or hybrid working*. *Not all positions can accommodate changes to working hours or locations.

Permanent

Howden began in 1994, as just three people and a dog. Now there are 23,000 of us, and weโ€™re a leading global insurance group, managing $37bn of premiums for our clients. Our largest shareholder group is us โ€“ the people who work in the business โ€“ supported by three long-term, minority growth-equity partners who share our vision to build a business to last, one that will never be sold. The owner's mindset is something thatโ€™s embedded in our culture; our people readily take ownership of their decisions, their actions, and their outputs. Theyโ€™re invested in every sense. And we all know that by working together to drive the business forward, everyone will benefit from the extraordinary results we can achieve.
