What is brand design?

Brand design is the process of creating a visual identity for a company, product, or service, which includes elements like logos, color schemes, typography, and imagery. The goal is to establish a distinctive and cohesive look that communicates the brand's values and personality to its audience. Effective brand design helps build recognition, trust, and loyalty, setting a business apart from competitors. It often involves collaboration across marketing, design, and strategy teams to ensure consistency across all brand touchpoints.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a brand designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Brand Designer, you need expertise in visual design, branding principles, and proficiency with design software, typically supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and knowledge of web design systems are essential. Creativity, strong communication, and collaboration skills help Brand Designers develop compelling visuals and align with client goals. These skills ensure cohesive brand identities that effectively engage audiences and support business objectives.

How do brand designers typically collaborate with marketing and product teams during a project?

Brand designers often work closely with marketing and product teams to ensure visual consistency and effective communication of the brand’s message. Collaboration usually involves regular meetings to align on campaign goals, sharing feedback on design concepts, and iterating on visual assets based on team input. Designers may attend brainstorming sessions, present design proposals, and adapt their work to fit both marketing strategies and product requirements. This close teamwork helps ensure that branding remains cohesive across all customer touchpoints.

Job description

Recruiting at Brex

Recruiting is where every career at Brex begins. We're the first point of connection for future builders and leaders, helping candidates see what's possible. We partner with leaders across the company to find exceptional talent and build high-performing teams. We move quickly, think strategically, and take pride in creating a thoughtful, welcoming candidate experience from the very first contact. We don't just fill roles-we shape the culture at Brex by hiring the designers who define how our products look, feel, and function.

What you'll do

This role is responsible for partnering with hiring managers and design leadership to define team needs and role requirements, ensuring alignment on hiring goals across Product Design, Brand Design, and Design Leadership.

You'll source, engage, and assess world-class design talent through diverse channels, while managing the full recruitment lifecycle from outreach to onboarding. You will develop strategies to attract and retain diverse design talent, proactively building pipelines for both immediate and long-term hiring needs.

You'll track and analyze key hiring metrics to improve recruiting effectiveness, collaborate cross-functionally to ensure fair and consistent evaluation practices, and champion Brex's employer brand within the design community. This includes representing Brex at design events, portfolio reviews, and on relevant social platforms.

Where you'll work

This role will be based in our Seattle office. We are a hybrid environment that combines the energy and connections of being in the office with the benefits and flexibility of working from home. We currently require a minimum of three coordinated days in the office per week, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. As a perk, we also have up to four weeks per year of fully remote work.

Responsibilities
  • Lead sourcing and outreach efforts for design roles, leveraging recruiting platforms, creative communities, portfolio sites, and social networks.
  • Recruit across senior and executive Design roles in Product Design, Brand/Visual Design, and Design Leadership.
  • Evaluate candidate portfolios, craft quality, systems thinking, and collaboration skills at the most senior levels.
  • Partner directly with VP and C-level design leaders to set craft standards, hiring bar, and team composition.
  • Own interview processes for executive searches, including portfolio reviews and design exercises, ensuring a top-tier candidate experience.
  • Advise hiring managers and executive stakeholders on pipeline health and recruiting strategy.
  • Keep candidate data accurate and well-organized across recruiting systems and dashboards.
  • Lead continuous improvement of recruiting processes, inclusive hiring practices, and candidate experience.
  • Shape and promote Brex's design employer brand as a recognized voice in the design community.
Requirements
  • Proven track record owning recruiting strategy and talent mapping across a broader org, not just individual searches, with demonstrated ability to gain stakeholder buy-in at the leadership level.
  • Deep experience handling offer and negotiation processes up to Executive-level candidates, with expert command of compensation models, equity, and total comp.
  • Demonstrated ability to raise the hiring bar and mentor other recruiters/sourcers on delivering quality hires.
  • Strong track record as a thought partner to senior stakeholders, able to unblock ambiguous, complex hiring challenges and coach hiring managers on evolving candidate profiles.
  • Experience defining and evolving interview processes at the org level, and training/upskilling other recruiters.
  • Data-driven approach to time-to-fill and recruiting efficiency with the ability to manage multiple searches and priorities simultaneously.
  • Background recruiting for design roles (Product Design, Brand Design, Design Leadership), with fluency evaluating design portfolios and craft.
 Bonus points
  • Experience recruiting design leaders and building design orgs from the ground up.
  • Track record building employer branding or talent marketing programs for the design community at a company or industry level (e.g., recognized speaker or name in design recruiting circles).
  • Experience hiring design talent across multiple geographies (e.g., US, Canada, LATAM, EMEA), including building sourcing strategy for new markets.
  • Experience recruiting for adjacent creative functions (e.g., Content Design, Design Ops) in addition to core Product and Brand Design.
Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $207,920-$259,900. However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors including the candidate's location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.

Please be aware, job-seekers may be at risk of targeting by malicious actors looking for personal data. Brex recruiters will only reach out via LinkedIn or email with a brex.com domain. Any outreach claiming to be from Brex via other sources should be ignored.
