Description:

The Per Diem Anesthesiologist/Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) supports the mission, goals, and strategic plan of South Florida Donor Network (SFDN) by providing anesthesia services for brain-dead donor organ procurements. This role is responsible for the intraoperative management and physiologic optimization of organ donors during procurement procedures to maximize organ viability and transplantation outcomes. The provider collaborates closely with procurement surgeons, perfusion teams, donor management coordinators, operating room staff, and transplant professionals to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality donor care throughout the operative process.


The Per Diem Anesthesiologist/CRNA is expected to maintain hemodynamic stability, optimize ventilation and perfusion, manage vasoactive medications and blood product
s, and respond effectively to rapidly changing donor physiology during multi-organ recovery procedures. Experience in cardiac anesthesia, transplant anesthesia, trauma, critical care, or complex surgical procedures is strongly preferred. This position plays a critical role in supporting organ utilization and advancing the life-saving mission of organ donation and transplantation.


โ€ข Provide anesthesia care for organ procurement surgeries involving brain-dead donors in accordance with established clinical protocols and national standards.

โ€ข Perform comprehensive physiologic management of donors, including ventilation, hemodynamic support, vasoactive infusions, temperature regulation, and fluid/electrolyte balance.

โ€ข Collaborate with surgical recovery teams to optimize donor stability and organ perfusion throughout procurement procedures.

โ€ข Manage invasive monitoring, including arterial lines, central venous access, and other advanced hemodynamic monitoring techniques as indicated.

โ€ข Support hormonal resuscitation strategies in alignment with donor management protocols.

โ€ข Communicate effectively with procurement surgeons, SFDN coordinators, and transplant teams regarding donor status and intraoperative changes.

โ€ข Ensure timely and accurate documentation of anesthesia care and donor management interventions.

โ€ข Participate in case reviews, morbidity/mortality discussions, and quality assurance initiatives to improve donor management and organ utilization.

โ€ข Assist in the development and refinement of anesthesia and donor management protocols and policies.

โ€ข Adhere to quality standards and legal compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies.

โ€ข Promote a culture of safety, respect, and collaboration among multidisciplinary teams.

โ€ข Act as an ambassador for SFDN and support outreach and educational efforts when appropriate.

Requirements:

โ€ข Medical/Clinical Credentialing:

Anesthesiologist: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or

CRNA: Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia program

Current and unrestricted Florida license required


โ€ข Board Certification:

Board-certified/board-eligible in Anesthesiology (physician) OR NBCRNA certification (CRNA) required


โ€ข Clinical Expertise:

Demonstrated proficiency in anesthesia management of complex or critically ill patients

Experience with invasive monitoring, vasoactive medications, and ventilatory management


โ€ข Specialized Experience (Preferred):

Cardiac anesthesia, transplant anesthesia, or critical care experience strongly preferred


โ€ข Communication Skills:

Ability to clearly and effectively communicate intraoperative findings and changes to multidisciplinary teams
