Job Description:
About Archaea
bp is committed to investing in lower carbon energy so we can meet our ambition to reach net zero by 2050. And while we're still mostly in oil and gas today, bioenergy is one of our five transition growth engines and a key focus to help us support the global energy transition.
Archaea Energy, a bp company, is a leader in landfill gas to energy and the largest renewable natural gas (RNG) producer in the US. With big ambitions, we specialize in the development, construction and operation of RNG, landfill-gas-to-electric and dairy digester facilities. The team operates around 50 sites in 32 states with a robust development pipeline.
About the role
The Principal Facilities Engineer is the primary technical contact supporting the safe and efficient operation of the Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) plants in an assigned region - typically three to five facilities. This role sits within a team of Facilities Engineers and partners closely with other engineering disciplines, including Electrical and Controls. The Principal Facilities Engineer also provides engineering review and feedback on new plants under development in their region.

  • Act as a process safety leader for assigned sites, including participation in PHAs and use of the MOC process
  • Optimize plant availability, methane recovery, and sales gas delivery
  • Troubleshoot process upsets and equipment issues affecting plant performance
  • Lead Root Cause analyses of events resulting in unplanned downtime
  • Scope, design, and implement minor plant modifications through the MOC process
  • Participate in design reviews for new plants in development
  • Review major engineering submittals produced by 3rd party engineering contractors

Essential education
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering or equivalent in related field

Essential experience
  • More than 5 years experience with natural gas processing, refining, petrochemicals or related field
  • Experience and technical understanding of design and operation of gas processing equipment
  • Proficient in working with PFDs and P&IDs

Desirable criteria
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Experience with RNG facilities
  • Hands-on experience with any of: gas compression, pressure swing adsorption, membrane separation, flares and thermal oxidizers, process control and instrumentation
  • Process simulation experience (e.g. Aspen HYSYS, ProMax, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of relief system sizing, pipe hydraulics, control valve sizing and selection, and heat transfer calculations
