Aerospace Mechanical Assembler

Job Description

  • This role focuses on high-volume mechanical assembly work for a military and defense production facility in Santa Ana, CA, on a 2nd shift schedule.
  • You will perform repetitive, precision mechanical and electronic assemblies in a fast-paced environment with a goal of producing up to 5,000 units per month.
  • The position offers overtime opportunities and the potential to relocate to an Ohio site at the end of the year, with strong prospects for long-term growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repetitive mechanical assemblies in a high-paced production environment, meeting daily and monthly output targets such as 5,000 units per month for the team.
  • Assemble high quality mechanical assemblies, wire harnesses, test racks, junction boxes, and associated components using hand tools, power tools, and soldering equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to accurately perform assembly tasks and follow detailed work instructions.
  • Use common hand and power tools, including pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, depth micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, pressure gauges, multimeters, test boxes, and other specialized test equipment to complete assemblies and adjustments.
  • Perform inspection of assembled components to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications, identifying and correcting defects as needed.
  • Conduct validation and testing of various electronic components using equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and test racks.
  • Assemble and work with RF systems, including testing and running RF-related components and subsystems.
  • Apply common air-frame construction techniques, including installing rivets, mechanical fasteners, nut plates, and similar hardware where required.
  • Perform electronic box assembly, including troubleshooting issues and writing detailed issue tickets for failures and nonconformances.
  • Run functional checkouts and tests on assemblies and systems, diagnosing issues discovered during these processes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot extensively at the mechanical, electronic, and PCBA levels to resolve problems and improve product performance.
  • Use a computer to access standard browsers and word processing applications for documentation, issue reporting, and communication.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with engineering and production teams to resolve technical issues and improve processes.
  • Adapt quickly to changing roles and responsibilities while maintaining productivity and quality in a challenging, fast-paced work environment.
  • Work overtime and weekend shifts as needed to support production demands and project schedules.
  • Wear required steel toe or composite toe shoes or boots at all times while on the production floor to maintain safety compliance.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing setting performing mechanical assemblies; experience in aerospace, electronics, or medical industries is preferred.
  • Proficiency with common hand tools such as pliers, wrenches, and screwdrivers for assembly and adjustment tasks.
  • Proficiency with power tools and precision measuring instruments, including depth micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and pressure gauges.
  • Experience using multimeters, test boxes, and specialized test equipment for assembly, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics and follow detailed assembly instructions accurately.
  • Working knowledge of common electrical components and their functions within assemblies and systems.
  • Proficiency with computer use, including standard web browsers and word processing applications, for documentation and communication.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with engineering and production personnel.
  • Ability to rapidly change roles and responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment.
  • Comfort with repetitive mechanical assembly work in a high-volume production setting.
  • Availability and willingness to work 2nd shift (approximately 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm) and to support overtime and weekend shifts as needed.
  • Ability and willingness to wear steel toe or composite toe shoes or boots as required safety equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience mechanically assembling repetitive mechanical assemblies, high quality wire harnesses, test racks, junction boxes, and associated components involving hand soldering and component fabrication.
  • Experience performing validation and testing of electronic components using multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and test racks.
  • Familiarity with air-frame construction techniques, including working with rivets, mechanical fasteners, nut plates, and similar hardware.
  • Experience with electronic box assembly, including troubleshooting and writing detailed issue tickets for failures.
  • Experience running functional checkouts and tests and diagnosing issues discovered during these processes.
  • Experience testing and running RF systems in a production or test environment.
  • Extensive troubleshooting experience at the mechanical, electronic, and PCBA levels.
  • Experience with mechanical and electronic assembly in aerospace, electronics, or medical device environments.
  • Familiarity with integration work, including assembling and integrating multiple subsystems into complete products.
  • Experience with soldering for electronic and mechanical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with software tools used for documentation, testing, or support of production processes.
  • Interest in or openness to relocating to an Ohio site at a later stage for continued employment and growth opportunities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
