Job Description
About the Role
Huntington is seeking a part-time visitor shuttle driver to operate a variety of 6-14 passenger electric carts around the grounds on specified routes to provide transportation for visitors in need. This free service is offered to all visitors regardless of ability and is an important part of The Huntington's desire to offer exceptional visitor experiences and enhanced access to its collections, galleries, and grounds. Service generally operates between 10 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. every day except Tuesdays.
The candidate will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach.
This is a part-time role, 23 hours per week.
(Schedule is set for SUN/MON/WED/FRI 11 a.m.- 5:15p.m.)

Essential Duties
The Shuttle Driver assists the Membership & Visitor Services (M&VS) team by providing safe transportation and promoting all aspects of customer service, as follows:
  • Greets arriving and departing shuttle riders in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner.
  • Provides the highest level of safe transportation to visitors of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities and operates ramps, lifts, step stools and seat belt devices as needed.
  • Maintains a clean shuttle throughout shift and assists with minor cleaning of shuttles when needed.
  • Engage with visitors who seek directions and other general information.
  • Maintains effective communication within the M&VS team, and with all relevant organizational departments. Stays aware of issues relating to Visitor Services.
  • Works collaboratively with Security staff to communicate any safety or security issues that are encountered.
  • Pre- and post- shuttle use, ensures all equipment is functional and presentable, including sweeping and cleaning interior surfaces as necessary.
  • Checks for any damage internally or externally and reports any issues to the Reception & Visitor Services Manager.
  • Ensures umbrellas at stops are opened and closed at the beginning and end of shift.

Other Functions
  • Assists at Members' events, as requested, as well as other departments in Advancement, and at public events which are supported by the M&VS staff.
  • Performs traffic and pedestrian control and other relevant duties as operationally necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements and Experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in a customer service role
  • A valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Minimum 1 year of driving experience, additional driving experience such as delivery or similar service desirable
  • Work a varied schedule including weekends and most holidays (The Huntington is closed to the public on, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day)
  • Patience with individuals of all ages
  • Knowledge of basic Huntington grounds layout and facilities
  • Able to work effectively with colleagues throughout the organization
  • Ability to handle responsibilities in a calm and efficient manner
  • Communicates effectively & professionally with visitors, staff, and co-workers
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Must be comfortable working in public setting
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and appearance
  • Spanish and Mandarin fluent is a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Schedule is SUN/MON/WED/FRI 11 a.m.- 5:15p.m
  • Outdoor environment. Must be comfortable in working under hot/cold/wet weather
  • Ability to sit for majority of work shift
  • Ability to maneuver vehicle appropriately
  • Ability to judge well/have discernment over on the spot scenarios
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
