Gulf Electroquip is located in Houston, Texas, USA. We specialize in new, remanufactured and repaired AC and DC motors and generators for the oil & gas, dredging, paper, petrochemical, mining, utilities and transportation industries. Our power equipment can be engineered and manufactured to meet the specific needs of your industry. All our engineering is performed at our facility making sure that your exact specifications are met.

Role and Responsibilities

This position is required to maintain efficient production of machined parts in the manual machine shop. A list of requirements are as follows:

  • Setting up and operating a manual horizontal boring mill, vertical turning lathe, horizontal lathe, three axis knee milling machine, key cutting machine, shaft balancing machine, 500T press, etc.
  • Using measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements
  • Maintain quality and safety standards
  • Keeping records of jobs completed
  • Attend short weekly safety and training exercises for the machine shop
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints or engineering plans
  • Specify and identify materials
  • Set zero and reference points using basic math functions
  • Setup manual machines for production runs using vises and other material holding parts
  • Load and unload parts into machines
  • Train other machinist to complete jobs on machines while using various bridge cranes to load and unload machines
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Verify that parts currently being machine are within tolerance
  • Oversee and maintain safe operation of all machines and ensure that machines are being used in a safe manner
  • Measure parts with high precision measurement device including but not limited to manual caliper, micrometer, gauge, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Quality department to ensure that new production parts meet quality standards

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with high precision measurement devices

  • 5+ years' experience setting up & operating manual Mills & Lathes
