Machine Operator

Location: Houston, TX 77051
Pay: $20.00–$25.00 per hour, DOE
Night Shift Differential: Additional 10% pay differential for qualifying night-shift hours

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Machine Operator to join our Piping amp; Structural Fabrication Departments. The Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment used to fabricate piping and structural components.

Equipment may include lathes, milling machines, saws, plasma cutters, laser cutters, grinders, robotic welders, and related fabrication equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, experience operating industrial machinery, the ability to read blueprints, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely and efficiently operate manufacturing equipment, including:

    • Robotic welders

    • Saws

    • Lathes

    • Milling machines

    • Plasma cutters

    • Laser cutters

    • Grinders

  • Safely operate overhead cranes to move materials and components.

  • Maintain accurate raw material inventories.

  • Nest work orders to maximize material utilization and machine efficiency.

  • Set up and adjust machinery according to work orders, drawings, specifications, and production requirements.

  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections to ensure equipment remains in safe and optimal operating condition.

  • Monitor production processes to ensure quality, accuracy, and productivity.

  • Make machine adjustments as necessary to maintain required specifications.

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and resolve basic machine malfunctions.

  • Identify issues such as dull blades, material jams, incorrect settings, or other operating problems and take appropriate corrective action.

  • Maintain accurate records of machine settings, maintenance activities, production output, and other required documentation.

  • Follow all OSHA requirements and company safety policies.

  • Properly use required PPE and follow safe work practices at all times.

  • Conduct safety checks and immediately report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns to the supervisor.

  • Participate in required safety training.

  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow 5S principles.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management.

Required Skills amp; Qualifications
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work orders, and product specifications.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine operation.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and proper operating procedures.

  • Ability to accurately measure and mark steel materials using tape measures, rulers, calipers, and other measuring instruments.

  • Ability to monitor machine operation and make adjustments to maintain quality and accuracy.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.

  • Basic computer skills for production documentation and inventory management.

Education amp; Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum 2 years of fabrication experience.

  • Previous experience operating manufacturing equipment such as lathes, milling machines, plasma cutters, laser cutters, saws, and grinders.

  • Additional vocational training or certification in machine operation is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Forklift certification.

  • Overhead crane certification.

  • Machine operation or related technical certification.

  • Experience with robotic welding systems.

  • Strong ability to troubleshoot complex machine issues.

  • Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and 5S principles.

Safety Responsibilities

Safety is a critical part of this position. The Machine Operator is expected to:

Physical Requirements amp; Work Environment

This position is performed primarily in a manufacturing/shop environment and may involve exposure to industrial noise, equipment, steel materials, and varying temperatures.

The Machine Operator must be able to:

  • Stand for extended periods, up to 10 hours per day with a lunch break, and up to 6 days per week as required.

  • Regularly sit or stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the work area.

  • Frequently move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Work around industrial machinery and heavy materials.

  • Work in a non-air-conditioned environment.

  • Work at heights or in confined spaces when required by the job assignment.

  • Demonstrate normal vision and the ability to distinguish colors.

  • Safely perform work requiring adequate hand-eye coordination and hearing.

  • Follow all required safety procedures when operating machinery and material-handling equipment.

Required PPE
  • Safety glasses are required.

  • Steel-toe boots are required in the manufacturing facility.

  • Hearing protection/earplugs are recommended and required where designated.

  • Additional PPE must be worn as required for specific equipment and work areas.

Compensation

$20.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Night shift employees receive an additional 10% pay differential for qualifying night-shift hours.

Pay will be determined based on relevant fabrication experience, machine operation skills, certifications, technical knowledge, and qualifications.
