Job description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities General Maintenance Technician II is responsible for a variety of maintenance duties including manufacturing dept press floor needs, building maintenance, inspections, PM’s on facilities and grounds, general cleanup, and running errands, ensuring sites are safe, functional, and well-maintained for occupants and visitors. This will be achieved while maintaining HellermannTyton's Quality and EHS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation.

Essential Functions

  • Building Maintenance: Perform repairs on interior finishes (drywall, painting, flooring) and minor fixes to mechanical, electrical (low voltage single phase), and plumbing systems. Door repairs, repairing/assembling furniture, changing lights, correcting sink and toilet issues, as well as other duties will also be assigned.
  • Manufacturing Dept Needs: Perform assembly/maintenance of workbenches, install/maintain equipment and housekeeping boards, TV/monitor replacements. Assist in other general duties as requested by manufacturing, as well as prescribed maintenance. 
  • Housekeeping: Complete routine housekeeping duties through PM work orders or, as requested, including floor scrubbing with ride-on equipment, floor buffing, mopping, sweeping, dusting, high bay cleaning, etc.
  • Seasonal Operations: Complete snow and ice removal during winter (shoveling entrances, salting).
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct regular prescribed walkthroughs of both interior and exterior areas to identify hazards, malfunctioning equipment, etc.
  • Work Order Management: Use CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) to track tasks, document repairs, and manage inventory supplies.
  • Event Support: Assist with the setup and teardown of furniture, equipment, wall dividers, and signage for special events or office reconfigurations.

Other Functions

  • Deliver/pickup parts as requested. Deliveries will include: internally between sites, from stores, vendors, etc. This may also involve travel to HellermannTyton’s Romeoville, Ill site. (Level 1 Primary)
  • Raise and lower flags as needed along with maintaining flag inventory.
  • Attend and complete annual safety training, along with other internal training.
  • Liaison with contracted services as needed.
  • Must be able to work overtime including weekends as needed on a limited basis.
  • Use of personal vehicle required, mileage will be compensated.

Success in this role will require

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform strenuous labor in various weather conditions, lift 50–100 lbs., and work at heights on ladders, scissors lifts, boom lifts as well as the use of forklift equipment, both propane and electric. Harnesses and self-retracting lifelines (SRL’s) will be required at times.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using a wide range of hand and power tools for diverse repair tasks.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong diagnostic skills to identify issues in building systems or plant health and implement effective solutions.
  • Communication: Ability to professionally interact with tenants, vendors, and management while clearly documenting work.

What You'll Bring

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent; vocational training in trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical) is highly preferred, with training in line voltage single phase electrical being required (120/240V).
  • Experience: Typically, 2–4+ years in commercial building maintenance.
  • Certifications:
    • Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
    • OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour safety certification. Training can also be provided.
    • Forklift certification. Training can also be provided.
