Job description

Library Associate II Position

The Burleigh County Library is seeking a full-time (40 hrs/week) Library Associate II position. The position is generally Monday through Friday but will include occasional evening and weekend hours. Requires a good driving record and the ability to drive the bookmobile, a 30ft Freightliner step van (CDL, not required). In addition to driving the bookmobile, work will include cataloging and processing new books, preschool-age story times, assisting with the library's social media platforms, and supporting day-to-day bookmobile operations. Ideal candidates will have previous library and cataloging experience, strong computer and customer service skills, knowledge of social media, and willingness to be a collaborative part of our team.

โ€ข Provides readers' advisory services and instructs patrons in the use of the Burleigh County Library and its resources, including the bookmobile.

โ€ข Drives and operates the bookmobile, assists with routine interior and exterior cleaning, and fills the bookmobile with fuel.

โ€ข Troubleshoots day-to-day operations in the absence of the Head of Burleigh County Library.

โ€ข Loads and unloads books and materials from the bookmobile to library storage shelves prior to and after daily runs.

โ€ข Assists with selecting library materials for the bookmobile.

โ€ข Shelves returned materials.

โ€ข Implements programs such as story times, senior activities, and book clubs in conjunction with scheduled stops and outreach events.

โ€ข Proficiently uses the library's computerized circulation system and online catalog to create new borrower records; check items in and out to patrons; search for and request items; and handle overdue notices.

โ€ข Performs technical processing of new materials for checkout, including stamping new and withdrawn materials, printing spine labels, installing Mylar covers, and reinforcing paperbound items.

โ€ข Participates in Leadership Team meetings and professional development opportunities.

โ€ข Participates in the request for reconsideration process aligned with the library's Collection Development Policy.

โ€ข Communicates frequently with the Head of Burleigh County Library, Library Administration, and Leadership Team members to ensure smooth overall library operation, including the development of policies and procedures that affect areas of responsibility.

โ€ข Performs other duties of a comparable level/type as required.

โ€ข A bachelor's degree is required.

โ€ข A valid North Dakota driver's license and a clear driving record are required.

โ€ข Two years of satisfactory work experience in a public setting is required.

โ€ข Two years of satisfactory work experience in a library setting is preferred.

โ€ข Must have demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication.

โ€ข Must have demonstrated proficiency utilizing computer hardware and software.

โ€ข Must understand and communicate the library's operational policies to the public.

โ€ข Must understand and regularly review the City of Bismarck's employee policies and the library's operational policies and procedures.

โ€ข Must be familiar with, affirm, and uphold the library's guiding principles: mission, vision, and value statements.

โ€ข Must carry oneself with professionalism and integrity with all internal and external library stakeholders, assuming positive intent in others' actions, words, and behaviors.
